The Steam Halloween Sale is now on.

Can anyone give any recommendations?

My 3 recommendations would be:

Plants vs Zombies
Bioshock
Team Fortress 2

Games I'm considering for purchase in order of preference:
Left 4 Dead 2
Overlord II
Aliens vs Predator
Deadspace
Resident Evil 5

Thanks.

TF2 sucks ass since they introduced microtransactions.

(not a topical dig, actually the case)

left 4 dead 2 is great fun i recommend it for mindless zombie slaughter arcade action.

is the overlord series any good? looking at steam forums there seems to be many bugs that seriously hamper playing, particularly for dual core 64 bit windows 7 players?

Not really, the only things you can buy that don't drop randomly are entirely cosmetic.

TF2 sucked ever since they added random drops.

TF2 is still fun, and i swear theres more people playing than ever.

The microtransaction thing is fine as long as they don't gain access to special items normal players can't get.

Of the list of possible games, I've only played Left 4 Dead 2 and Deadspace.

L4D2 is a blast, buy it, especially if you don't own Left 4 Dead 1

Deadspace on the other hand, sucks.
It's not scary, the mouse controls are laggy and slow.
The action is even that exciting.

It's obvious that L4D2 wasn't really trying to be scary, opting for a more frantic pace, where you're mowing down zombies by the dozen with a LMG.

Deadspace on the other hand tried to be scary, failed, tried to be an action game, and failed there as well.
It had pretensions to be a survival horror game, and just didn't quite grasp the concepts.

Thanks for your input guys.

I'll be buying L4D2, haven't decided on the others.

Any more thoughts on the matter are most welcome.

I bought Bioshock just because it's like $4 or something like that atm.

I bought that Frontlines Fuel War or whatever b/c it was like $3.

Haven't gotten a chance to play either yet, but probably will this weekend.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with those thoughts. I played Deadspace and loved it. I found it to be one of the better survival horror games to come out in awhile. In fact I found myself only able to play the game in segments of a few hours because it was mentally exhausting.

Granted everyone has their own ideas and even more so with what they find scary or not. It's always going to be subjective.

As for gameplay, I played both the PC and Console version. The mouse controls on the Pc are awful. Play with a gamepad if you do pick it up, it's much better controlwise.

Also the gameplay can often turn into "go here, push button/pull lever, go to next section". While not a major complaint with me, your objectives don't ever really get more varied then that.

I would really recommend it but maybe play a demo to check it out. I can say playing alone in a dark room with surround sound scared the hell out of me lol

The microtransactions in TF2 works like this: You can buy all the items that are in the game (guns, secondary stuff, hats and so forth) but you can not buy something that you can't acquire by regular drop. Also, you can't use the bought items in the crafting system so the current system favors people that do not use the microtransaction-system. Exclamation
