Awesome stuff. The top of that girls head could be a little less uhm, edgy? cornered? what's the word. Well, it could be more round.

Well yes, but then we'd be wasting polygons. This is an ingame real-time model after all and we are limtited by a poly budget, albeit considerably higher count than when we made the original ones.

I imagine the following happening when Incarnia comes out and we get to see our full avatars which we created early:

"NO. The hairstyle I spent 3 hours coming up with looks terrible from the back! I need to change it! CPP!!!"

"Oh what the hell! Those pants do NOT go with my hair! I need to redo!!! CCP!"

"Uh... I didn't realize my pantsu would show out the back like that... I need to change the color... CCP!?"

OR we will end up with people that look like THIS:

(Warning: may not be work safe link!)

ugh

This, can we make sure we can you know... change things and make absolutely sure stuff like the above doesnt happen?

further, can we change clothing even post incarna, and potentially have multiple outfits?

also, tamber, stop breaking the forums and make a link from that, please?

this is really neat- but will our prior attributes still be there? like my character is wearing a robe with a hood (I think) will that option be available?

Your prior character specific attributes will not be copied and some clothes and hairstyles will no longer be available, but there is an Amarr robe in there which should be published on release, unless there is a large meteorid induced airburststrike, flattening Reykjavik, solar storms wipe our hard drives or devs catch rare tropical diseases. Or if the cloth sim breaks. But our aim is to have those out at launch.

A full blog of excuse that can basically fit into short "Sorry guys, we've failed to convert old character models to new engine, so you all screwed to redo your work".

Yes, that was not good timing, we had a meeting after reviewing face tattoos where we conclided that they needed more work and had to get pushed back and we'd deliver them later with excellence, then I sit down at my desk and see that we just published the chronicle on the importance of the tattoos to the Minmatar culture. Not that we didn't know, many of us are minnies ingame and carve Khumaaks out of wood at home, but that was bad timing. Facepalm moment.

Your feedback and comments are important, the teams working on the feature reads them, but I can't promise that we will be able to get the facial tattoos into the initial release.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully we can get that in a mini expansion without waiting for the full Incarna release. *cough*

So, t0rfifrans, you seem to be rather fascinated by the concept of feet. Is this a brief look into the soul of a dev? A foot-fetish dev?!

And do we get hands? Cuz those were a bit more of an evolutionary feet, don'tchaknow. Very Happy

In a way it‘s a marketing faux pas, since the character creator on Singularity is far from being ready. This, however, is the way we roll. We publish unfinished stuff to our test server to allow you, the players to have a go at our new technology, to find defects, to have it tested on all kinds of different hardware configurations so that we in the end deliver a higher-quality product.

Can you stop doing the same to Tranquility too?

Well, not quite. Zbrush gives you full control over the model, allowing you to convert an orange into an Orc and then into a Zerg. Our artists actually use Zbrush. But the UI will more allow you to sculpt the face as if you were changing the genetic structure or bone structure, all within limits.

@CCP t0rtifrans:
Would the Incarna client be released in this same way (i.e. one month before the launch), or we will have months before the actual launch to help you guys sort stuff in SiSi?

Also, +1 for (at least limited) retries on the character creator. Even with the current one, I am amazed how different the low-res 32x32 or 64x64 icons look like compared to the full-screen face at character creator.

The old Avatars were quite well made and one of their strengths were their customisation options and they still look quite well, even 7 years after the launch of the game.

I would have two personel requests, first give Gallente females some heir options that do not look like several liters of styling gel and probably some cement have to be used every morning and second please keep the old avatars somewhere around. Perhaps even as the option to add a picture of the old avatar to the wall of the captains cabin in later incarna versions as a small in-joke.

If facial options are going to be iterated upon, will there be options to edit our faces to incorporate new features, or will people who updated with the summer patch require paying for a face transfer later down the line with real $?

Weight and muscularity will be adjustible ( with different contraints per race / bloodline ) but height is not adjustible. Different height avatars require an animation system or a set of animations multiple orders of magnitude more complex than having all the same height. There's a lot of things we can't support with different height avatars without considerable extra engineering and art investment which we prefer to spend elsewhere. That said, the men are taller than the women.

When Incarna hits, will there be a gradual weight-gain based on a "metabolism" skill, with an ability to work out and train that will build your metabolism and lose your weight?

Cuz virtual weight-lifting is almost as cool as it is in real life. Cool
