I'm talking about starting skills. For instance, Engineering, Mechanics, Hull Upgrades, Electronics,Learning Skills, etc. This would help newer players get up to speed.

I would also recommend combat skills exclusive to frigates, like small energy/hybrid/projectile turret skills to also receive a skill point reduction so newer players can experience null/low-sec PvP in decent frigates with decent skills relatively quick (3 months max). I feel that newer players get bored and leave before they really get to experience EvE in all it majesty.

I can see what you're getting at - and it's a noble ideal but the thing is, within 3 months, a player can be effective in a Battlecruiser which would contribute well to many types of fleet or would be only shy of a few Lvl 5's if he trained for frigs.

I know that the support skills are a pain because you don't feel the benefit except for fitting or access to T2 mods, but I can't see that will change just because you get to do them quicker.

I suggest that if you're put off by training a rank 1 skill to Lvl 4 within a matter 1-2 days, having it train up in 1.5-2 days isn't going to make much difference to you.

As for the learning skills, that's a whole different can of worms that has been beaten to death, revived, flogged, sold, bought back, buried and exhumed so many times it's just not fun anymore. Laughing
Personally I'd do away with the advanced versions in one stroke; good luck to anyone who saved themselves some time and bad luck to those that trained them up high (myself included).

I think the basic learning skills are a fine tool which can be easily used or disregarded with little consequence as they are equivalent to the implants available anyway.

Just give every character +12 in all 5 attributes and remove the ALL of learning skills, and this would be solved for you.

I think you'd need to consider the imapact this would have on alt-griefers, further speeding up peoples abilities to get covert cynos, trade alts, etc.

To be honest I think the Rank 1 skills are fine and to be honest a newer player fitting a ship doesn't ened to worry so much about Electronics/Engineering 5, those generally are needed later on on the BS and Tech 2 fits.

Rank 1 skills can be trained to lvl 5 in about 3 days, and level 4 in less than 1. Yes, they can be kind of a pain, but certainly to start off with you don't need anything more than level 4 in anything. With having a skill queue, there isn't really a problem with rank 1 skills nearly as much; it used to be they were long enough that training them was more than 1 play session, but short enough that it could be hard to get back and update after they finish.

Bottom line- if you can't wait for level 3 or 4 of a rank 1 skill to finish training, you don't have the patience for EVE. When you get right down to it, EVE is an MMOWG- massively multiplayer online waiting game. Even when you're online doing stuff, you're sitting there waiting.

Allow me to redirect you to a more "balanced" discussion that touches upon this subject.
