Hi CCP,
instead of making a trailer based on the EVE backstory, like the highly emotional Day of Darkness II, you decided to promote the evil. You are advertising theft, betrayal and a coward form of revenge as the awesomeness of Eve.
I know you guys don't believe in karma, but don't you think, this could turn on you one day the one or the other way ? For example, what will you do, if a victim of a vicious betrayal (who on top of that might have a unstable personality and fails to separate ingame and rl trust breaches) decides to befriend some devs, joins CCP, gains trust and rises in your ranks, gets access to the code or CCP's assets and then disappears with it ?

I say they should file a petition with the police!

But if Karma does exist, they will be told to HTFU!

Sometimes you guys are really dense.

Its all about freedom, EvE is one of only a few MMOs that let you do this kind of things AT ALL. Its not as if you would have to let you get griefed right? If you don't trust the internets, then dont give other ppl power over you.

This form of social interaction and freedom is 10x better then some childish failsafe, even if you get burned once or twice.

i have nothing against promoting shadier side of deals within game. however, CCP might have to reconsider their age rating of 12+. maybe it would be time we get dancers back, as well?

Why would it be bad to have your alliance getting destroyed by a 12 year old?

Surely the rating isnt something that CCP award their game, its PEGI and other such bodies who do, and they dont rate on such content as what players themselves create in EVE do they, but rather on certain guidelines issued by parent governments and what not?

The OP has a point.

You need to be able to be bad in EVE. And EVE needs prople to be bad.

But Im not sure that "being bad" is actually something to promote.

Well they can hardly advertise EVE for it's epic fleet battles, now can they?

Better focus on the one aspect of the game that is working as intended.

Actually I think it's very ok that you have the option to be "bad" in a game without severe penalties that make the game unplayable.

What I miss a bit is the option to be "good". Pirates and "mass murderers" can get their standings back to 5.0 without problems so you never know who you're facing. But the game has no options to be truely good and righteous because there's no way to show that. In a way EVE promotes KOS because there's no way to distinguish between an "evil" and "good" player so you better don't take the risk.

There's a lot of people who want to be anti-pirate and defend "innocent travelers" but they get the same punishment and standings decrease as pirates. Same for NRDS alliances, the current game mechanics make it almost impossible to create an empire like that. The game mechanics are really focussed a bit too much on hostility (like highsec wardecs which really make no sense, logically) and distrust imo and don't support those who want to do things different.

this is more of issue of philosophical nature of "good" and "evil". it's society that defines this. most of what we (in real-life) would define as "evil" is simply standard operation procedure in EVE. it's not that "EVE is wrong". it's our "lense" that is saying us "EVE is wrong".

that's what makes EVE a niche game. most people prefer to be told what is right or wrong. EVE just doesn't do that.

(Nasal American accent)

Imagine this is you
You're flying a powerful battleship in the far reaches of space, defending an outpost from a raid of (NPC) pirates
Suddenly a ship enters the fray, and starts stealing your hard-earned loot
You get angry and decide to teach him a lesson
Unprepared for warp disruptors, small signatures, and CONCORD you get your ass handed to you by a noob who then proceeds to smack talk you in local
He then posts about his "epic victory" on the forums, received by calls of "cool story bro"

Imagine what you could become a part of..

DoDII is a fan video, not a trailer. Doesn't make it less epic and full of win, though.

Differ reality from a game...

Game - you kill the "monster", backstab your buddy and steal the treasure. After that you did the mentioned, buy a new char for 200b isk and spend the remaining 800b isk on playing the game and having fun with the new, nice characters.

Reality - you infiltrate a company, even IF you get one day somewhere higher, it's 25 YEARS later, not 1-2 years like in eve and you still are not a share owner so you can't do much. And if you'r proven that you are trying to do things bad for the company... You will DIE under the ammount of law suits against you, rot in prison untill your 75 and then maybe some TV channel will interview you for 5 minutes and ask how do you feel and why did you do it. And the last part is just a big 'maybe'.

To get access to assets of a company you need far more than just a high position. And to 'disappear' in todays world is... Hard... Besides... How will you disappear? And with what? Their offices? Their server rooms? Most companies don't keep cash on their account, but invest all the time.

lol because all the other trailers were SOOO true...

They are down to stealing an alliance because that is about all that works now, I mean I did see some fleet fights (fake and gay no lag) but... pretty much all that works in eve is robbing people... no lag in that.

Compared to DoDII? Yes, very. At least they show things you can do and which do happen in the game (albeit with… ehm… "varying" frequency Razz) — about the only game-accurate thing in DoDII was that there were space ships.

Granted, there is a place for "this is the world" videos (see the various Empyrean Age teasers, the coronation video and such), but as a means to show off the actual game? Iffy.
