Why do you care so much?
Oh right, for advertising.
Well, fix fleet lag, that will be an awsome advertising actually; imagine: eve online, where fleet fights are fights, and not "watch a freezed screen"
Yeah keep dreaming.

If CCP gave a rats arse about new players and the PvE aspect of thegame instead of catering to the minority in low and null sec maybe this game might retain more of it's trial players.

Maybe for the same reason I do... because it is pretty cool having 50.000 or more players in the same game at the same time. Just sayin Wink

That would mean shifting precious nodes to us down in null. Stop complaining, you guys up in highsec have it quite nice. Even Jita's playable most of the time without noticeable lag.

Oh don't mind him. Thats just Angry Nullsec Fleet Fight guy. He pops into every happy thread and vents about his little corner of the game. Granted he has full rights to his anger its just that he sometimes can't contain the rage to the proper threads.

What a peculiar and totally random number that you picked which has no relation to any recent events.

What's the record number people in a single 0.0 system with playable lag?

=/ why can't the forums just remember to use my main instead of this one.

You'd have to define playable first and then be able to measure it. Good luck with that.

But how many of those are alt accounts? Second accounts? Third accounts? More? Trial accounts? Multiple trial accounts? Meaningless figure without any breakdown.

^this.

Why exactly would I want to bring my friends to EVE? So they laugh at me once they see the first fleet fight with 15min gridload and modules locking up constantly? Or do you mean because of the same 5 missions where you warp to the same crap looking nebulae thing and shoot little crosses with different names over and over?

Fix lag, that will get you more players then some meaningless PCU record.

It has been well over 1000 from my experience, but the more important statistic would be how many ships have been on grid in a single 0.0 system where input commands were still manageable? It will vary by user obviously, and yet I am not certain where that number would be for those players with the best connections. I've never taken the time to make screenshots and count before.

So we have to choose to either have a PCU record or a fix for fleet lag. Rolling Eyes

Seriously?

You have no idea how good you guys have it in the training ground.
You want "imersive game play" a system that lags with 100 people in it isn't imersive :(

edit:
Also, random numbers mean nothing.
"My new product can reduce your chance of cancer by 6"
It means nothing without context.

60,000 people online at once, sounds impressive, except.
how many were old accounts
how many were new
how many were trial
how many were resubs
how many cancled subs
how many dev accounts were online?
how many were afk in station
how many were macros
how many in empire\low\0.0
the list goes one

It's a good point about trial accounts. My friends have starting playing after years of me saying try the game.

Although I have given them help they still find the new player experience pretty poor. With the amount to do in eve yes its a massive world but the game is hard on new players, VERY hard.

This of course puts most people off right away as most people don't want to "persist" for months and months before they start to learn the game, even if you give them that advice being "This isn't just start a character and go blowing people up" the game still has issues with the new player experience, people try it then think "this is just too much" and dont come back

Oh no... lazy ADHD gamers are put off by a game that takes time to get into

My tepid cynical heart bleeds for them

Maybe a twitch and shoot fps would be more up their street?

No but breaking the PCU record implies that the game is getting better and better when it's actually getting worse and worse.

This is the wrong kind of message to send and it makes me sick if the CCP guys play these "yay together well make it" crap games. If you want "togetherness" then provide the god-damn game in a decent manner and fix gamebreaking technical issues before you let the marketing noobs out of their cage and let them take the helm.

You need to understand that a game is a game is a game. You cannot expect 100% of the player population to cater to your own playstyle and desires. Think like a business person and not like a tweenager who has loads of time on his hands to spend gaming. The average person who enjoys MMO's today is in their 30's. This number is getting higher as years go on since pioneer online gamers are getting older. This means that a lot of gaming developers are shifting strategies to appease the majority and not the minority. Blizzard was the first to do this as they drastically transformed world of warcraft over the 6 years its been out. EVE has slowly been doing the same.

And that's why I cancled my sub.
The games not what I want any more, it's getting aimed at a wider and wider audience and losing sight of the interesting niche that drew me to it in the first place.

Same goes for WoW, once it sounded interesting and was aimed at an older audience, not they aim it at the 10+ year olds and for some reason dumb it down acordingly.

I've always had the mind set of "make something difficult and expect everyone to try harder" rather than "dumb things down to the lowest level"

And that, to me, feels like the way eve's going.

But then I grew up on the NES and loved battletoads when it came out, so what do I know.

Basically, business/sales/middle management/marketing departments are the worst thing to happen to a beautiful game in my mind.

**** middle management and their ****ish quarterly objective bull****.
Let the ones that love the game drive it and have middle management there purely to make sure they don't skitt from feature to feature and actually make things work properly.

Screw "release dates" CCP set them anyway, just have a rolling release where new, interesting content is released along side fixed etc as and when it's ready.
Out moded concept that they are with mmos anyhow.

Oh look.
Chance to blow own trumpet, takes 6 minutes to reply to thread.
Needing a response to a thread where people are being critical, still no response after 6 weeks.

Fix lag and the other numerous incomplete and broken issues and more people would stay past the trial, which would mean more people on line. Oh. Wait. Can't do anything about keeping those new players for another 18 months...
