So, I'm considering swapping my Legion for a Nightmare. For one thing, my fleet is now shield tanked. I was impressed by the way my phantasm out-dps'd my legion. And I figure, if Phantasm is good at what I need, Nightmare must be better.

So, anyone have a sleeper Nightmare fit?

Yes, but the nightmare really only shines in a pulsar. You will have an incredibly hard time getting any decent cap time outside of a pulsar (unless you find someone willing to cap transfer you).

Here is a good c4/c5 pulsar fit, note the imperial tachs, that's the only way to get cap stable, even in a pulsar without gimping dps. Spiffy it up as needed, the shield remotes are there as insurance, can be swapped for energy transfers if you want to set up a chain.

addendum: more (raw) HP works best in big gangs, high resists work best in small gangs (everyone permalocked).

lotsa hp buffer is for slow on the rep fleets, lotsa resists low buff is for fast experienced and efficient fleets.

Basically you shouldn't need more (hardened) buffer than about 2-3 NPC volleys.

(Yes, this will help your cap cuz less cap for RR = moar cap for pewpew)

ps, why not use faction crystals?

It's a ridiculously expensive isk printing machine anyway, might aswell pay the bit extra for the topping.
