You should avoid mining during the event, especially if you can not afford the loss.

That being said, I set out to find a setup using Hulks with an Orca in the fleet to provide Maximum logistics.

First. This is theory crafting and EFT wizardry. Laughing

Second. I am sure there is away to defeat the setup, but if there are easier prey around it might just make someone looking for a fast and easy gank move on to some one less prepared.

Logistics Orca:

[Orca, Orca - Trojan Protektor]

Reinforced Bulkheads II
Damage Control II

Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II
Cap Recharger II

Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter
Siege Warfare Link - Shield Harmonizing
Large S95a Partial Shield Transporter

Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I
Large Capacitor Control Circuit I

Light Shield Maintenance Bot II x5
Light Shield Maintenance Bot II x10

Hulk:

[Hulk, Staying Alive]
Mining Laser Upgrade II
Internal Force Field Array I

Phased Muon ECCM Caster I
Remote Sensor Booster II, Scan Resolution
Invulnerability Field II
Survey Scanner II

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II
Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II
Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal II

Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I

Medium Armor Maintenance Bot II x5

The theorycraft is to arrive at the belt and target each other. Once you have rat aggro, the Hulk(s) put armor bots on the Orca. The Orca targets the Hulk(s) and drinks beer.

Projected Eccm is there to make it hard(er) to jam the Orca.

Remote sensor boosting is there so the Orca can re lock faster just in case he is jammed.

Have a hauler to pickup ore from the hangar every so often and enjoy the fireworks all around you. Cool

Who knows, just might work.

P.S. I <3 teh Orca!

EDIT:

The posts below citing the use of high alpha BS gangs are spot on. Embarassed I had in mind that the majority of participants in this event would be in smaller craft and smallish gangs when I conjured up this tactic.

Needless to say that with enough alpha (arty or TP + torps) this set up could fall apart sharpish as the damage a LARGE fleet could muster would out perform the repair rate an Orca could provide. (although good luck killing the Orca b4 Concord arrives unless you have SUPERIOR numbers) YARRRR!!

That being said, I still would like to get feed back on this or similar setups in hostile environments. Say in a C1-C2 mining fleet. Of course one would most likely have to build the Orca in the hole.

As for the "why not just use an Osprey?" posts.

Well, lets just say an Orca has a tiny bit more tank than an Osprey. Also, I hear the Orca might just have some gang assist benefits in a mining fleet that an Osprey does not posses. Idea Why waste a pilot in a repair Osprey when he could be boosting the fleet, eliminating the need for jet cans, AND doing logistics?

Hulkageddon must be srs bsn if jamming your orca is a likely action.

But seriously, the only way to really really protect your hulk during hulkageddon is to keep the damned thing in the hangar... I plan on running missions... Or blowing up hulks of people that are dumb enough to undock. I mean, seriously, have you seen those prizes? Twisted Evil

Why not use an Osprey instead?

1. Locate a system with very low local levels and at least one station.
2. Fit out an Orca like this:

[Orca, Hulkageddon Orca]
Expanded Cargohold II
Expanded Cargohold II

Stasis Webifier II
Stasis Webifier II
Stasis Webifier II
Stasis Webifier II

Mining Foreman Link - Laser Optimization
Skirmish Warfare Link - Evasive Maneuvers
Small Tractor Beam I

Large Low Friction Nozzle Joints I
Large Low Friction Nozzle Joints I
Large Low Friction Nozzle Joints I

Hammerhead II x5
Mining Drone II x5

3. Fit out as many Hulks as you want like this:

[Hulk, Hulkageddon Hulk]
Mining Laser Upgrade II
Inertia Stabilizers II

Stasis Webifier II
Stasis Webifier II
Stasis Webifier II
Stasis Webifier II

Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal I
Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal I
Modulated Strip Miner II, Veldspar Mining Crystal I

Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I
Medium Low Friction Nozzle Joints I

Mining Drone II x5
Warrior II x5

4. Warp to belt, align to station, lock each other and apply at least 2X webs on each ship.
5. If local starts going up get ready to warp.
6. When you see ships inbound to your belt, hit the dock button.

Just use cheap osprey to protect your hulk and colect teras, with max cap recharge, two large named shield transporter, capacitor rechargers, cap flux etc,if you see any suspected ships in overview just warp to hulk direction, lock it and start pump shields, almost 800 hp every 5 sec, range 40+km , with invuls fited in hulk awesome mix against more at 2 kamikaze bs,ofc work fine if you have alt or if you mining with corp members.

You know what? I had not looked at the prizes until I read your post. Shocked Here I was thinking this was mostly for luls.

Based on my prior thought (silly me) there would be very little ROI for using a fleet of Battleships during this event with insurance nerfs and all, but for those kind of prizes? Yeah keep your mining ships locked down.

I do still think however the set up I posted may have some uses with a few tweaks, although NOT during this event. Perhaps in a C1-C2 mining fleet?

Dunno, but thanks for the feed back guys.

If you and the friend are in same fleet AND same corp should be all good.

Yeah, sorry about that. Same corp or Concord will get upset. On the bright side if your friend got his webs on you he just got on an Orca killmail with a Hulk. Yay!

The good thing about just using webs is:
1. You won't have to worry about whether the gankers bring more dps than you have tank because they'll never get a chance to lock you.
2. You can just pass fleet boss around and be ready to warp fleet. That way only one person has to stay sharp at all times.

Don't forget to mention the repetitive stress injury you will recieve from having to drag to a jetcan 3-4x a minute.

Hmmmm.

-or-

You can simply create a noob character on a trial account and have him do something criminal that invokes CONCORD. They come, whack the noob and stick around for 15 minutes thus offering zero wait time to whack hulk hunters.

Then use noob character to loot said wrecks. Assuming people are foolish enough to try anything with CONCORD right there.

Repeat as necessary.

It's a celebration across all of space where pilots of Hulks take them out to dance the glorious delicious dance to the God of Veldspar. Into the mysteries of ancient rites given amongst dwelling asteroid belts do Hulks gather in the darkness to renew for yet another year the abundance of such valuable ores.

Renew! Renew!

...

-or- it's an annual contest put together by some right bastards to gank hulks for fun, profit and rankings.

Your choice really how you want to approach this sort of thing.
