Oh, I didn't forget it, the past just isn't relevant anymore. There is nothing happening in the US that can compare with the victories of the 20th century, yet people are content to coast on the achievements of others well into this century. I, however, am not.

Until we cease being empirical, we'll continue to follow the same road other empires followed, and we will ultimately fail as they did. Pull the troops back from all over the world, secure our own borders, tend to our own business, and stop worrying so much about China.

We have had several space programs the problem was the US cried about some of them and got them shutdown, like the UK plans for a GPS network which would have ruined Americas monopoly on the technology.

I want news articles. Not saying you're wrong, just saying I've never heard about it.

I can see the GPS thing causing friction, though, and have to side with the US. We put all our satellites in orbit and spent trillions and lives developing space technology, so we will run the show. Hard to argue with that.

Besides, do Britons really care about a space program? Really? It would seem redundant, since the two countries are so closely tied in all things. The US goes to England first before anyone else when requesting assistance in most cases, and vice versa. Two space programs would seem a bit of a waste.

Now I'm not saying not to have astronauts, but I can't see the need to have a NASA space station and then a British Space Station orbiting as well on the left-hand side.

It was called the Black arrow project and it succeeded in putting a satalite into orbit. At the time it was better than the American rockets but the project was scrapped because ministers could not see any market for the rockets and the cash was diverted into making Concord. Yet another tragic example of British engineering wasted by the idiots in Parliment.

Maybe so, but the concept of the Concord was fantastic. I wish the US had something similar for the public. Granted, the Concord's grounded pending investigation due to mishaps, but it flew for years before the latest trouble. I'm kinda glad space exploration has somewhat been put on hold for now, or at least hasn't been given any more funding than it already had. As much of a space geek as I am, there are more problems right here that need attention.

Concord is gone. They are all grounded indefinatlyCrying or Very sad
Americans always build some nice toys but we Brits seem to be able to add just a bit of magic to ours. Just take the vulcan bomber. Yea the B-2 has stealth and the B-52 a much bigger payload, but none of that matters when you a have a bomber the looks and sounds like this. I was at that airshow and it really did scream that loud and danced around the sky like it thought it was a fighter.

An old military buddy of mine told me a story one time about when we used to have the F-111 low altitude bomber/EA platforms. He said the pilot wanted to show off how good he was so they set a cruise at about 500 feet, just above the treetops and were plugging along pretty well when he noticed two RAF Tornados fly underneath him and pass him. Very Happy

slaves owned by brits so brits goods

Americans carried on slave trading for 43 years after the British outlawed it - many even after that.

Its very difficult to find anything in all honestly as it was the subject of a huge cover up at the time and resulted in intelligence agencies and police making raids on the BBCs Glasgow offices and seizing materials and the sacking of the BBCs director.

A basic outline of the Scandal is that an investigative journalist became aware of the secretive development of a missile or satellite program and began to dig about and research it and eventually filmed a documentary, when the government became aware the cover up began. The Scandal is known as the "Zircon affair" most articles claim it was a surveillance satellite that was later scrapped by parliament but others and a TV program claim it was a GPS system and it was scrapped due to intervention by the US government. Whatever the thing really was its funny how much of it still covered up.

To be fair while Britain and France built Concord the Americans built the XB-70 a strategic bomber capable of cruising at Mach three.

the US almost had a Concorde, but it was deemed not worth while due to the fact it would never be able to use the profitable markets. the US Intercity routes. since they avoid supersonic over much of the mainland to prevent breaking windows and such in cities.
