I played this game for 3-4 months back in 2005 and was lured back by a free trial.

I must say I find the experience quite overwhelming. In many ways far more so then when I originally began playing. I’ve basically forgotten everything and found myself piloting a battleship I’m woefully incompetent to command. Tried a level 3 mission and barley survived with a total loss of 10 mills ISK having to abandon some drones and actually being stupid enough to pay for having my ship repaired in a station rather than just using some of my fitted repair equipment. Since it is more than 5 years since I played I confidently expect that my equipment is hopelessly out of date. Any advice? While I have no clue how to play the game a quick inventory shows me with the skills needed to fly Gallante battleships as well as a megathron and a dominix. Also I seem to have a Raven and level 5 skill in both types of battleships. About 10 million skill points associated junk and about 80 mill ISK in the bank. I image I should be able to run level 3 mission rights? Any clue on how I should equip my ships? I was flying in my Raven equipped with big-ass torpedoes and those either altogether failed to hit any of the smaller opponent NPC ships or didn’t do much damage when they did. So is there a place to go for old newbis?

Also, is voice chat integrated in the interface now? How do I access it?

Hmmm, interesting problems! May I suggest that you link your character's skills on www.eveboard.com so we can see what you've trained and give some specific advice?

A lot has changed in five years, so your ship setups may indeed be out of date. For example, a mission Raven usually uses cruise missiles now instead of torpedoes, because their range and precision are better, and torpedoes don't do much damage against small targets.

However, even if you can't do much damage, you should be able to tank the incoming damage of a level 3 mission, so that suggests your primary problem with both ships is in the area of defense. You'll either want a good active shield tank on the Raven, or an active armor tank on the Dominix, with resistance hardeners tailored to the mission enemies. So if you're facing Gurista pirates, for example, you need to tank against kinetic and thermal damage.

But... post your character sheet and we can see the details!

Well, it's great that you've got both battleships to level V. Your tanking skills aren't bad either -- both for armor and shield. Your gunnery and missile skills leave a lot to be desired, however. And you can't use T2 drones of any kind (you might want to prioritize Scout Drone Operation V).

I think it's a toss up -- either train to be a missile-using Caldari, a drone-using Gallente, or a gunnery-using well, either Caldari or Gallente. To learn how to fit your ships better, look for setups on Battleclinic or in the Ships forum here. For example, here's a link to a highly-rated mission Raven setup: http://eve.battleclinic.com/loadout/36821-Raven-Starter-Low-Skill-Dps.html

A couple other new features since 2005 worth mentioning:
1. You can remap your attributes. If you have weirdly unbalanced Intelligence/Memory/Perception/Willpower, you can optimize them now. You get one remap per year.
2. There are now "certificates" which are sort of like skill training recommendations. Each ship has some recommended certificates that help guide you in training the support skills you need.

I would say, download EveMon, set up a training program with 6 to 12 months worth of skills -- pick a few cool ships and modules and use their recommended certificates as a guide -- and then let EveMon tell you the optimal attributes to speed up your training.

Thanks. I’ll fit something along those lines and then perhaps look for a nice friendly corp. for some co-operative level 4 missions?
