I'm eventually planning on getting a nightmare but which do you think is better for lvl 4s: a abaddon or navy geddon?

Against BS the geddon would do higher damage( using heavy drones) but the abaddon has a stronger tank( sustained def diff of 30, reinforced def diff of 100)

What are your thoughts?

Then again, I'm only 200m away from a nightmare so maybe I should just wait...

Forget heavy drones, count with sentries and lights.

But I plan on moving my ship to get into range of the enemy, if I move away from my sentry drones I won't be able to call them back to redeploy or switch to lights. Unless they changed the distance at which sentry drones can be recalled

Amarr bses wont be efficient this way.
Use beams and sentries.

And you should just wait for nightmare.

Moving isn't really a strong point of the Abaddon, because it's a damn brick made of solid metastealthingamaboballoys. However it packs quite a lot more punch then the Navygeddon. All in all, the Baddon is an excellent armorbuffer with massive damage dealing capabilities.

Navy Geddon has more base-HPs though and an extra low, which either makes the tank rather similar or leaves you more room for... whatever you want in there. Yet the Navygeddon will be better at providing energy for the weapons and reppers then the Baddon, especially if you insist on moving around (which pretty much demands an MWD or AB, which drains cap, too).

if the misisons you do tend to be more ranged, consider the navy apoc too.

id go with the abaddon or nightmare however, very high dps and plenty of tank - abaddon wins over geddon because they are so close in everything else the cost comes into swaying it for the abaddon.

Abaddon: 8 turrets, +25% damage = 10 equivalent turrets

Navgeddon: 7 turrets, -25% RoF = 9.33 equivalent turrets

Where the Abaddon wins is with it's resist bonus, meaning that it can tank more, and more efficiently. For straight up DPS, I'd say that the navgeddon has the advantage because of its very superior drone capability.

PS Maybe it's just me but when I do missions, a lot of them seem to require moving around a fair bit. I prefer Heavies to Sentries. YMMV.

Comparable fits:

Abaddon
8 megapulse 2
1 tracking computer 2
3 cap recharger 2
1 LAR 2
2 hardeners
3 heatsink 2's
1 cap power relay 2
2 CCC
1 energy locus coordinator
5 hammerhead 2's

This would give the abaddon 4 minutes of cap, a 58km optimal with scorch (730 gun dps), a 19km optimal with IN multifrequency (916 gun dps) and a defense of 366 against EM/Therm. 5 hammerhead 2's would add 158dps.

Navy Apoc
7 megapulse laser 2's
1 tractor beam or drone link augmentor (can only have this if you use faction mods, or a CPU implant)
1 cap recharger 2
1 tracking computer 2 (optimal)
2 omnidirectional tracking links
1 LAR 2
3 hardeners (1 EM, 1 Therm, 1 EANM used in this case)
3 heatsink 2's
1 cap power relay
3 CCC
5 guarde 2's

This fit has an optimal of 52km with scorch, 43km with guarde 2's, and a dps of 981 at that range. With IN multifrequency, optimal is 17km, and the fit does 1155dps (note, with 2 omni's, guarde 2's can hit even orbiting cruisers at 10km). Tank is 351 against EM/Therm, and cap lasts for 4 minutes.

If you are ok using sentry drones, and have good drone skills, I would go with the geddon. If you don't have good drone skills, or if you don't want to use sentry drones, then I would go with the abaddon.

Both are pretty equal on paper but I prefer my Navy Arm over my Abaddon. And I don't now about other folks but I need more then 4 minutes of cap to run most missions.

I always aggro the mobs (purposely) to bring them into range so I have constant target within range. If I were to single out one mob at a time then fly in range for the next mob and so on, mymissions would take too long.

Last time I EFTd these ships, I'm pretty sure the NARM our DPSd the Abaddon as your skills went up. But I can't swear to that....i think I'll go check on that.
