Alright. I am just finishing up my Caldari Cruiser training, and I have had Minmatar cruiser 4 for a long time. I normally specialize in Minmatar ships, and have a few hundred thousand in projectiles, but I also have missiles/cruise/torps trained up pretty high. Hybrids have been trained a bit, beam weapons I have never touched.
I have pretty even shield/armor tanking abilities.

My question is, should I buy a Ferox or a Cyclone?

My main 3 criteria are as follows:
1)Survivability
2)PVP
3)PVE

And in a distant fourth,
4)Mining ability

I have heard the ferox is a beast in combat, but I am sort of discouraged by the lack of PG, despite its dependance upon missiles. I have read several posts on the Cyclone, and the main reason I am concerned about buying one is the apparent lack of mid slots and crippled ability to make use of its best ship bonus.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I fly the Ferox PvE and really like it, 5 mids and 5% shield resists per lvl make it a much better tank than the Cyclone imo.

To me it is the hi slots, 8 (cyclone) vs 7 (ferox), so it is an easy choice for me.

Cyclone

5 t2 small beams, 3 malkuth heavies

2 LIF ABs, 2 cap rechargers

1 small t2 armor repairer, 2 cap relays, 1 diagnostic/reactor

Esily one of the best Deadspace ships adaptable to PVP with a few minor changes.

Cyclone for me - can handle any lvl3 agent mission (for the massive drone infestation waves on those two nasty lvl3 missions just make sure you swap the 720s for something that can hit! Shocked )

Normal space
5 named 720s , 3 named heavies
10mn mwd, med t2 shield booster, named cap recharger, named EM activated shield hardner
1 gyro t2, 3 t2 pdu's

Deadspace
1 named 200mm, 1 named 220mm, 3 named 720s, 3 named heavies
100mn t2 ab, med t2 shield booster, named cap recharger, named EM activated shield hardner
1 gyro t2, 3 t2 pdu's

Hmm, maybe I will go for CYclone then. It just seems like with the extra midslot the Ferox would be more "durab;e" overall, and with 5 launchers it should be able to dish out more damage as well.

if u cant use all that tech II stuff, you probably cant, try (THIS IS JUST HEORY) a long range setup, something like this:

5X 720mm
3X Heavy Luancher

1X MWD
3X Tracking Comp

2X RCU
1X Projectil Dmg Mod
1X Missile Dmg Mod

I think it fits not sure, if the rats dont mwd faster than you, im pretty sure this works, your range would be 30-60km, depening on ammo and skills.
