If you only have a CC and no launchpad, you can still launch stuff into space, but it goes up in a jetcan (effectively), for you to pick up (via a Bookmark in your Journal).

If you have a launchpad, you can launch stuff into space (to a Customs Office, where it waits for you to collect), but also you can IMPORT stuff to the planet (eg. if you are making a P3 or P4 item, you generally have to bring stuff in from off-world).

You can, but you have to it manually using the 'expedited transfer' button.

How long can you hold stuff on the orbital center? or it doesn't have any time limit?
