So ...

say you want to reactive a few older accounts, to see which characters are worth selling or picking up to continue training. Obviously since it has been quite some time, you can't remember the passwords exactly, so you go through the Password Reset process.

Cool, passwords reset, but in order to log in to Account Management you first need to provide the name of a Character present on an account.

Now what do you do if for reasons of something between senility, schizofrenia and other circumstances you cannot remember which character was on which account. You can't proceed beyond that Character name check. There is no other option.

A petition seems a good idea. However, doing that from this account got the response that you have to petition from the actual account in question. Bit odd. Especially considering that if an account is inactive, you have to resort to the general email based Petition processes.

So, that's now a set of petitions pending between respectively 4 days, 5 weeks and 9 weeks, since petitions were created.

Anybody got an idea of options I have overlooked?

Make sure you're logging into the Account Management section as deactivated accounts cannot access the forums or EVE Insider.

Also, entering the incorrect password will still bring up the box for character name. So if your password or character name is incorrect you will get an error message. So make sure you're logging into the correct section with the correct password and then it's a matter of trial and error or petition with credit card details and CD keys.

That's the thing, you cannot log in to Account Management without providing the Character name reference after having done a password reset. Even if you don't have to do a password reset, the log in procedure will still ask you for the Character reference because the accounts were active from a different location as current (ISP with dynamic IP).

If you don't know exactly which character is on which account, you can't get in to Account Management.

Try logging into evegate.com that doesn't ask for your character name, then use the character name to log into the main site.

You are asking me to explain to you how to circumvent security features. Having been the victim of account theft, NO.

I doubt thats your goal but the guy reading it might not have the same problem. Brainstorm, try and remember what you did with those characters. You will remember one.

EVE Gate, which among other things was designed as a tool of social networking to keep people subscribed and subscribing again after taking break, does not allow you to log in with expired accounts, regardless of whether to engage in social networking or other purposes.

"Login was unsuccessful. Please correct the errors and try again.

* Account is disabled"

That's not what I am asking at all. Far from. I can see the point of the new procedure, it's just darn confusing that there is no secondary method whatsoever. For situations like these I'd be happy enough with a similar timer as now applicable on Character sales (the 10 hour lockdown, which could very well apply to expired accounts as well for these things since it would be quite common to expect that after a year or two of inactivity the owner might have a different IP address).

I have a tentative character list, just no matching across account names. I'm thinking of going by trial & error, but considering this new system and CCP being on the ball with account hacks, I'm somewhat fearful they will see the attempts as someone trying to get into account and banning pending investigation. Which brings me back to the petitions outside of the support system, those just really don't work very well Crying or Very sad

Ask a GM to reactivate the account with one of those nifty 24hour activations, during that period you then log into the game client (or EVE-Gate) with the account name to check what character you had on there.

It's a little long winded for just getting into your Account Management page but for now it seems like the only method that would work. :\

just petition it.
I had a similar issue where I remembered a character name, but not the name of the account it was on, I sent in a petition, included some info like my full name etc and got the account names. Ask a GM which character is on which account, and you should be able to get an answer.
