LOL just wanted to throw a thread up that wasn't the typical emo rage/rant material.

A change of pace.

I love the Kawi's as well. Have a friend here who rides a beautiful orange ZX6R. Drool!

What I really would like to see in my stable in the future would be a red Monster! Shocked

Oh dear.

Here in the UK the Miata is the MX-5 and whilst it is quite nippy and handles well, it's still a car. The standard version seems to be driven exclusively by hairdressers, but I'm willing to accept that there may be a few folk out there with enough cash to throw at one of these things to make it go seriously fast.

The thing about cars though, is they weigh so much more than a bike and are nowhere near as agile and I seriously doubt that there is anything you could do to one of these that would make it faster accelarating than a competently ridden CBR600. It's all about power to wieght ratios I'm afraid and even if Jackson's hype about 40% power increases is correct, you still ain't even in the same league.

You might get it to go around corners slightly faster (after all, it's got loads more rubber on the road than the bike) but you can never make it change direction or accelerate as fast as a bike and the merest hint of a straight, or a sequence of rapid direction changes in some twisties and the bike will be long gone.

Sad but true.

Something Random,

You sir deserve a thumbs up for your internet skills.

Love Top Gear!

I stand corrected, that is one crazy cage. I'm still not so sure about the rider but meh. Rolling Eyes

Either way they smoked the 600 with an amazing hotrod. I'd love to give that Arial Atom a rip. Would love to see one in my garage as well. Very Happy

There is that. He didnt like say 'and heres valentino rossi to ride it!' and i persoanlly have a sneaky suspicion that was a crew bike riden by said crew member. However the Atom was only driven by Clarkson, a cut above the average driver im sure with all his track time but a normal guy never the less.

Id feel weird paying 30k for a pretty girder with an engine strapped to it but im thinking the first time my lips started to tickle my ear lobes id get over it Twisted Evil

It was also notable the Stig couldnt keep the understeer on hammerhead in control, i think thats where the recomendation of the Big Brake pack came in.

Personally i love bikes/trikes, the more powerful the better... which is why i will never try to own one, for Clarksons 'reality' over the 'ideal'.

I am out of work so i have huge amount of spare time. I read free books from Google Books. I listen to all sorts of music. Mostly AH.FM which is a dance music radio station. I play other computer games. I was learning French but i find learning a language very hard. I go for a daily run or cylcle in the park. I have no social life but i am content with myself.

Cars > Bikes

The Ariel Atom isn't a car; it's a rocket ship.

However awesome it is (and it is fecking awesome) it is not typical of cars and certainly isn't the tricked up MX-5 that one of the earlier posters reckoned would out perform the CBR 600 RR.

It also has a 0-60 time of 2.7 secs (manafacturer's claim) and tops out at about 140mph, so stand it next to a bog standard ZZR 1400 (2.5 secs 0-60 and top end of 186mph... limited electronically) and it doesn't look quite so good.

Had Top Gear run the same test using a BIG sportsbike (say a GSXR 1000... not quite as quick of the mark as the ZZR 1400, but much better around bends and with loads more mid range acceleration) the Ariel Atom would have been blown into the weeds, but they chose to use the standard plastic missile CBR 600, which is fast enough but not representative of what a proper big bike can do.

There's also the matter of price. The "cheap" version of the Atom is £20k+, and the supercharged monster over £45k. You can get any number of stupidly powerful hyperbikes for under the £10k mark now.

My own machine is an ageing GSX1100F (a lowly 130hp or so and considered a bit slow by modern bike standards) and I've only lost one drag race to a car since I bought the thing, and that was some heavily enhanced Porsche 911 with a turbo that sucked so loud I could hear it above the noise of my own engine and through a set of ear plugs. It did sound nice though... although feck only knows what it cost.

Fair play to the guy, but then my entire bike cost less than a set of brake pads for his Porsche and when we hit traffic up the road a bit, I was long gone whilst he had to wait. Very Happy

At the end of the day it's all down to personal preference; I like cars as well, but I'm afraid that no car can compare to the personal freedom and excitement of riding a fast motorcycle. Others may disagree.

I'm not a car or motorcycle nut and didn't realise that he was talking about a motorcycle. But I still stand on the fact that sooner or later you are gonna crash or moast likely have some grandma pull out in front of you and turn you into hamburger. Razz

Well having really fast and nimble convertable gives you nearly the same feeling as sitting on a crotch rocket without all the nasty bugs in your face or having to scramble for the closest overpass when a rainstorm blows through. Besides, motorcycles are for making sure darwin is served by killing off people with too little common sense that would normally have got ate by a lion in the olden days.. Laughing

I'm also a n00b cyclist, my BF is far more experienced. He's training for the Chicago Aids ride in July, and I'll be going along as crew. In the meantime, I'm working on building my endurance, last weekend we did a 15 mile ride down to President Obama's house and back, and were even cased by poorly disguised Secret Service agents haha. Cool I love travel, long walks off short piers, read, spending quiet nights at home trolling the Eve forums, and my favorite color is blue. :)

notes from the peanut gallery i.e. my BF who's looking over my shoulder:

him: "Do you ever actually PLAY Eve, or do you just troll the forums?"
me: "I beg your pardon Sir, oh and go sleep on the couch!"
him: "troll".

damn it. Neutral
