Fine, fine. I didn't know this. They've been working on this game for, what, 9 years? But I stand by my prediction about Duke Nukem. That game's dead! |

Considering there's a ton of people in the beta and there's literally hundreds if not thousands of beta tester youtube videos up, I'd say it will. |

Need I say: Star craft Ghost? Best case scenario, It'll end up as a WOW mini game in the next expansion, costing another 15 dollars just to play. I'm just saying. |

The difference being the Ghost was not an RTS, and that Ghost did not have an active Beta. |

From what I've seen, it's just the first one, as three games, with a facelift. So what's the appeal exactly? |

What's the appeal of WoW ? Millions play it though. Or, let's say, that's the appeal of Madden 2010 over 2009 ? Yet millions buy it each year. |

I don't know, I've never played either. That's probably why I'm asking. The game doesn't seem to have any additions that my mate whom has played the original and had planned to get the next one has mentioned. At least WOW does have expansions which add stuff, SC2 seems to play exactly the same as the first one. |

I didn't like the first Starcraft all that much either, was already spoiled by Total Annihilation the year before and Command and Conquer three years earlier. But I didn't exactly hate it either. It was just... mediocre. IMO, anyway.
When it first came out it already had dated graphics (sprites ? really ?), the interface was clumsy (seriously, select a maximum of 12 units and only give a single command ? what the hell? both the previously mentioned games allowed you to select countless units, and TA let you queue up orders too) and the story was pretty "meh". Nevertheless, it was a huge success. Well, to be fair, it still looked kind of pretty even with the dated graphics (that I have to admit), and thanks to those dated graphics, it ran on a wide variety of machines perfectly smooth (which could not be said for the likes of TA, which had problems running even on newer machines at reasonable speeds when things got cluttered).
It was pretty junk, and pretty easy junk too. It was simple (and I'm using that as an insult here) and catered to the lowest common denominator, both in terms of gamers and hardware... and damn it, it was as hard to admit this is, kinda' fun to play every now and then against other people. Yeah, I still prefered to play TA, but there were very few people to play TA with, whereas you could almost always find a Starcraft player. And that's why it was a success.

If it is just sc1 with good graphics AND a good multiplayer interface, it would say best game ever, just got better. However, there should also be some changes to the general controls, so it isnt as mechanically challenging as sc1 is. If this is a good thing is very subjective. Im not in the beta, so I havent tried it. Only bad thing about sc1 is the ******ed bnet, so you basicly have to play pirate server(s). Dont play singleplayer so dont care about campaigns and all that. |

Just ringing into what Akita said, the good games are often overlooked or played by only a very small group.
TA was the superior game in my opinion. Sure, Starcraft is "balanced" but who cares about balance when you can have a game with so many different strategies that a game can be decided in the first 5 minutes?
TA was that game. And if you failed to end it in 5 minutes it could erupt into an epic battle lasting an hour.
PS: Akita, if you want to play TA, I'm always available for a game. |

So it quite literally is the first game with a facelift. That's pretty **** poor for a sequel. |

If the game isnt balanced, it excludes every single strategy but the unbalanced one. Its then only a matter of who can execute the op strat the best. That is why balance is the most important part of any rts imo. |

Edited by: Hungry Eyes on 20/03/2010 23:14:47 im in the sc2 beta. it will see the light of day, this summer probably. all that is left is balancing tweaks. atm, im enjoying DoWII a lot more; there isnt a lot of strategic variety in sc2 and i log on only occasionally. this will probably be resolved over the next couple of patches though. apparently sc1 and wc3 betas were similar in this respect. sc2 is something i'll enjoy once it's polished and complete. |

The same can be said or about any other MMORPG. Only dead ones are complete My prediction is, it will be released somewhere between May and July of this year. |
