Edited by: Beachura on 17/03/2010 10:26:53 Hi, I need some help, think this is the right forum for the job. Until a few weeks ago, i thought my stats were pretty good i kill people now and then, and then i looked... and it's erm.. not so good.. lol
When i go alone into 0.0 for some solo pvp, I nearly always get killed. Any advice for picking fights 1 v 1 and where to go? what sort of ships should i be taking? (using a drake atm, because they are cheap and relatively cool)
Also advice from solo / small gang pvpers would be cool, pirating Badgers is all well and good, but kill stats on bigger ships alone would be cool.

Well, the last thing you should do is show any imagination at all. If you want to pick on small targets fly a dramiel and make sure you use one of the three cookie-cutter fits that everyone uses. If you are going for something bigger, you can just scale that thought up and fly a cynabal.
Any other method of PvP is automatically fail and worthy of derision, obviously. |

I find 1 vs 1 to be dead. Even if you seem to find some lone guy, he's got 150 fleetmates next system over, ready to gank your sorry ass!

Yeah that drake fit not particularly good imo especialy for what you are trying to achieve. Check your evemails when you log in. |

More specificly watch this video if you plan to pvp in a Drake also looks like OP was ratting when he got jumped. If he had fitted his ship right he could have killed one of the assailants before dying. Otherwise rule of thumb when ratting in 0.0 always fit for pvp so that if you do get jumped you can fight back. Also that Drake needs some damage mods and a damage control. |

Your chances to travel through 0.0 solo are bad, very bad. YouŽll get ganked everywhere. Even if you team up with a small team of players (2-10) you will often meet blobs of 30-500. CCP wants big blobs because big blobs bring $$$ into their plundered islandic bank However - here is my advice: you are a knight in a modern world. Adapt or die! You are simply in the wrong EVE age. 2004, when EVE was young and nice, there was room for your wish to fight in small groups. 2010 EVE wants blobs. |

IMO, you should stay away from 00 if you are soloing and specially if you are new to PVP.
Stick to low sec and IMO your best option would be to join FW. You should also get away from looking for 1 vs 1's, because they tend to be rare and you will spend more time looking and less time fighting.
I solo a lot and I typically look for small gangs of ships that are a class size down from me. If I'm in a cruiser, I look for frig & dessie gangs. If I'm in a BC, I look for cruiser gangs maybe with some frig support.
This doesn't mean I never go after other cruisers or BC's, it's just I'm typically hunting for small groups a ship class down from me. The reason for this is, the trick to getting lots of fights, is to make yourself look like a good target.
It's really not that hard to find 3 or 4 T1 frigs or even T2 frigs that are willing to take on a T1 cruiser. It's a good fight for them and it's something they have a chance at killing. Meanwhile it's very hard to find say a solo T1 cruiser or BC that is willing to fight and doesn't have friends waiting in the next system to gank you.
The important part is having the right ship that is capable of taking on the kind of targets you are looking for, but still has a reasonable chance against other targets, yet looks weak enough to be a target for your expected prey. Essentially, you want them to want to fight you.
(This is what the FTM ship spinners never understand.. You want to look like a good target for them.. no one wants to fight a Dramiel or what ever the flavor of the month is)
It looks like you are flying Caldari, so I'd suggest setting your self up some Assault Launcher Caracal's and go join FW. Go look for small frig gangs, but stay away from other cruiser in that ship. I'd also stay out of Drakes at first, because typically BCs tend to be gank magnets and tend to be much harder to find good fights with.
If I were you, I'd join Caldari Militia and go do roams out in the back systems, I see lots of Gallente frigs gangs roaming around out there doing plexes. Stay away from Old Man Star, Tama, Heydieles and so on because that's all blob-warfare and is typically very bad place to solo.
Also, don't base in Nourv or where ever Caldari base because u will just get stuck because Tama gate is always camped, set your self up in some back system close to a high sec gate like Enaluri.
While in FW, you can still do a bit of Piracy to get your feet wet and see if you like it.
Most importantly, expect to get blobbed. If you look at my loss mails almost all are from multiple targets and very few are from a single ship. Meanwhile probably half my kills are solo kills.
It's very annoying and will happen often, however it helps lesson the EMO rage if you already have more ships set up back in your hanger.
EDIT..
Something I forgot to add and it's kind of important for a soloer.. If you really plan to do a lot of soloing, "never" play the role of "bait" while you are in a gang. If you fly in the same area often, people begin to notice who you are. They will remember if you baited them in the past.
If you have a history or rep for baiting and ganking, then you will get less fights. If I get baited and ganked by someone or by some corp, I will not fight them again unless I know that I can gank them first.
Essentially, I look at them as a bad fight regardless of what they are flying, simply because I believe, once a baiter always a baiter.

1. Find a ship you can fly that can nano (Minnie have it easy) 2. Buy some snakes 3. Go to system full of faction war, theres serveral 4. Smack them in local till you provoke thier carebear rage ability. 5. Sit in a belt waiting for them to gather the balls to attack you. 6. When they land, get abit of distance, watch as they all split up like idiots. 7. Pick them off one at a time, while not getting scrambled (easier said than done) 8. Bail if you get to low on shield /cap etc

This works. I often find that Russians and antipirates (or Russian antipirates, JACKPOT) can be merrily substituted for FW blobs. It does help if you and your small corp of murderous *******s all fly Dramiels and Cynabals mind :p |

This. It's easy to get into the FOTM but not very smart. Plus everyone likes to lose a 80 mil isk frig. Watch kil2 video on the Club Bear website. He's really good. Some more tips, use t1 hulls. try and work with at least 1 friend. |

Basically that. Except for the Dramiel bit. I'm dying to test out a dual neut dual web Hurricane on a Dramiel. I solo all the time, it's not that hard to pull off, even w/out scout alt which I have not bothered to reactivate. The art is of course how to get fights (look like something they can kill or something they can engage and disengage from at least), how to spot bad situations (likely bait) and how to bail out in time. BCs are fun as hell to fly in lowsec precisely because of the fact that people are more willing to engage it then something T2, their ability to kill all sort of things, and low price naturally making it easy to make ISK pirating in a BC. If you're in a famous blobcorp or bait regularly or use Falcons or ***gotry of that sort people will learn to avoid you very fast. Ships viewed as flat out superior (eg. Curse) mean people will run a lot while something they percieve as killable (eg. Drake) they will often stay and fight. Aim for DPS in your fits, since it enables you to kill and GTFO, which boosts your surivability. |
