Quote: Some of us would prefer not to release anything until launch day, but we feel that it's better to get as many eyes on the feature as possible, and as many fingers clicking the buttons as possible, as soon as possible. But often it's confused or mistaken for a beta or for the real thing. What they're watching is just active software development.
Yep. In before the multitude of "this is a buggy piece of junk", "the UI is horrible", "what a waste of development time, there is no content here" posts. You know they are going to come thick and fast when this thing first hits the test server. |

I'm all for this expansion. That said:
The fact that high-sec installations won't be able to be attacked will cause a huge influx of players into, well, high-sec. The most valuable stuff will be found in null-sec, so the already filthy rich null-sec alliances will get richer still. In other words, population-wise and money-wise it will be more of same ole, same ole.
Oh, yeah, in between high- and null-sec is this other part of space, wotsitcalled... Low-sec. Of course noone will build any installations there because you won't be able to fly your stuff off-planet without getting blown up, plus once Dust hits the shelves your installations will get blown up outright.
I foresee a river stream oceanbiblical flood of tears from low-sec piwates who will cry that CeeCeePee not only did not nerf high-sec but buffed it instead and that L4 missions should be moved to lo-sec immeejutley, if not sooner. Paging Bellum Eternus.

As far as high sec goes, yes many Empire dwellers will get involved and keep profit low on most easily accessable worlds. This is a good thing. As far as Null sec goes, those planets will indeed provide higher profits... but can easily be taken away if you lose sov. As far as Low sec goes, who is going to blow you up as soon as DUST goes live? The pirates? Meaning pirates are going to devote time to letigamate industries in Low sec and ship those items to high sec in their down time? Sounds like pretty tame pirates to me. And if there is little going on development-wise as far as low sec planets are concerned, they will be just a valuable as Null sec planets. This means the incentive to go into Low sec for profit will become much higher than it is now. I forsee a whole new type of character trade developing... the Ninja Real Estate Developer trade. Seems pretty much win/win all the way around. |

lvl 4 missions are fine in highsec. just because a player wants to be in highsec doesnt mean he shouldnt be able to make money. highsec should be profitable and stay profitable. 0.0 has more 'entertainment' but isk shouldnt be cut from highsec.
i hope lowsec has a boost to its overall worth. i would enjoy a slightly more peaceful lowsec for some reason, i would like to fly past someone and not be targeted and i wont target him, everyone is usually so paranoid that its either run away or insta lock. theres not much trust to pass, i hope in a way this coming expansion brings a little more trust among players to not kill each other on sight. |

Quote: The actual mechanics of how many people can occupy a planet haven't been ironed out, yet. But the general idea is that it is not a land grab. You can build infrastructure and interact with almost every planet in the game, regardless of whether someone has something there, already. The problem is that the planets are going to have limited resources. So if too many people are harvesting a planet at the same time, there will be diminishing returns. So what you will find is that it will be much more enriching to travel to the more remote planets in the more remote systems, for planets which haven't got infrastructure built up, yet. But of course that takes you away from the key trade hubs to which you want to deliver your manufacturables.
You know, war dec's could finally have a purpose. |

Which raises an interesting question: Will planetary interaction be available to players in NPC corps?
From the interview: Originally by: Tenton interview We designed the game so that pretty much everyone who plays EVE can have a meaningful experience with the planets. We really want to get people into interacting with planets early. We want to allow them to have some sort of meaningful interaction on them. Although, you will need to be a fairly experienced player to fully utilize their potential.
So I guess everyone will have access to it, but to be able to develope it yourself, you will need ownership of it. |
