Hello

I was recently reading up on the details of the SiSi test server how it aparently used to have all level 5 skills yet it was removed due to more people ****ing around on it than playing on TQ.

Well my proposition is that CCP release an official Ship testing / arena server. My top reason is to basicly give impactient people something to do =D and to settle that age old debate of "I woulda won if i bought / trained X,Y and Z".

Now before i get shot down and bricked by 25,000 people saying that it would drag alot of people away from TQ and they would play this "test" server all the time. I think there should be strict limitations. Like a limit of 1 or 2hours per day or even a ratio of like 1/4 to TQ (you must be online on TQ 4 times as much as this test server). Or (This is even better from the CCP point of view) they could add an aditional charge onto the monthly payment of lets say £2 or £3 on top of normal payments to gain access to this server.

Of course with these limitations there are not going to be 30k people playing on it at any one time... so why have so many solar systems. It would require a bit of work but i recon it would be good with only a few solar systems some for PvE / Fit testing others for PvPing. Plus mayby some player aranged deadspace for private fleet battles and/or PvEing

Of course i wont deny the fact that there will be many imature people of a certain 10-14yr old age group who come on just to **** around and with the zero work / losses i expect that people will always try to suicide gank. So lets say CCP take the money approach to this they probably are willing to do some small work for it. Why not have instead of the "Are you sure you wish to do this" popup just no allow them to fire in the PvE / fitting zone.

Another feature i propose that only X amount of capital ships are aloud on the server at any one time and a certain achievment is required to fly them. So ofc we dont have many laggy systems with 50 titans battling in each. Also removing POSes and sovreinty would be good to.

So yea that is my proposition please take your time to read through the whole thing without picking on the fact that it may remove some people from TQ straight away.

your test with all lvl5s wouldnt help you at all, because when you go back to TQ you suddenly miss all those extra bonuses. and die. if you want to test do it with your current skills and you get usable facts.

So you want a consensual pvp server.

No.

Drop some cans, go to low/null sec, have a mutual war. Mechanics are there. Use them.

Interesting post. I'm going to pull out your line above though because I think it contains, of sorts, the answer to this.

It's long been stated that the test server is just for that, testing. We're all aware of this. Occasionally skills are set to level V in order to facilitate testing to ships where drastic changes are involved (especially ones that can have a large impact on sov changes and the outcome of major battles.) But they're always set back.

The reason I feel is that it's important that the test server not overshadow TQ in providing rewards to people who haven't achieved them. It is part of the drive in EVE to be able to work up to larger, more powerful ships (and this is true for many MMOs in general.) To offer a short cut for these on another server, while recognizing that it's not TQ, undermines some of that accomplishment. In this, the current test server functionality is rather elegent: People can fly, with little risk, ships they have "unlocked" in the main game, the "achivement" you stated above.

Starting up a pure ship testing server further undermines this. (Not to mention I cannot envision CCP wanting to maintain and manage a third server cluster.) While you do address some of these issues in your post, it seems like a lot of added work to prevent this new addition from overshadowing TQ when a simpler solution would keep things to TQ alone.

I don't mean to cynically rain on your parade, and I do not fault you in the least for proposing this (who doesn't want 100ISK capital ships!) But a max skill test server, in any form, undermines the spirit and drive of the main game. It's important we keep it intact.

I wouldn't mind say double training speed on sisi but if You realy want something and are close enough to it can just slap in +5 implants and cut a few days/weeks off training time only thing that is annoying is if new mirror comes out before skills finish but only matter if not training same thing on tq
