We already provide a website for a client doing just what you propose. Unfortunately I cannot give the web address as the site is proprietory and by invitation only but I mention it here to confirm we can provide the type of thing you need.

I already have a domain name but it isn't being used at the moment and the deal I have doesn't give me any webspace it's just somewhere to park the domain. I need someone to host the site and provide webspace plus database access - preferably MySql and Php5.

Do I need to buy a domain name from you guys or could I use the name I've already got and you would host my site plus the database stuff I need? Plus what kind of timescale would you estimate to get setup?

I'm ok using databases but a bit of a noob with the domain setup so any advice would be great

As stated the example graphical output of tabular data I showed is configured under the Joomla CMS but it can easiy be implemented in a solely HTML website framework.

Hi Tsarena and thanks for your inquiry.

The short answers is 'YES' it is easy to transfer your domain to our servers.

It is unfortunate that you have become disatisfied with your current host and we would be happy to provide you with a very reliable service.

Invariably the words 'Cheap' and 'Unreliable' go hand in hand. I would guess your corp bought into one of the advertised hosting services popping up on these forums that use 'Cheap' as their main selling point.

The actual process of changing the DNS settings to move the host servers is a straightforward procedure which is completed in a few hours.

The real work lies with the content you have on your existing website server. It's not complicated but you obviously need to copy all the content over to the new site and ensure it is working properly. We would provide access to a preview URL for this exact purpose. You can then be sure the site is working correctly before moving the live domain over.

If it is a purely html site it is relatively easy and you would backup all the files and images from your existing servers and copy these to the new site. Then spend a bit of time checking all the pages function as expected and links do the right thing etc.

If you are using databases you will need to back up all the tables and data within them and you need to ensure the database structure is saved in the backup to allow you to rebuild the database on another server. Plus you need to install the application using the database - such as a Killboard or a CMS like Joomla.

None of this is 'rocket science' but you do need to take some care and depending on the amount of applications installed on your existing website it can take a bit of time to transfer files etc and test. However the time it takes is outweighed by the time your current host fails to deliver the service you need so sometimes its worth biting the bullet and making a change rather than continue with a sub-standard service.

I would ask you to follow up with details of the applications you aready use - Killboard or a CMS or whatever - and then I can advise you of what is involved.
