As title says, what are the best few ships for each race (sub-capital) for taking the aggro of a lvl 5. This tank can also include remote armor/shield reps (lets say 2 larges of either or), and maybe a cap transfer for those neuts (which may or may not help much). Thanks Very Happy

Passive Ishtar for kin/thermal, passive Broadsword for em/th, Devoter for mainly exp. dmg.

I personally have seen the Nighthawk tank every lvl 5 worth doing.

I have heard the rattlesnake is also a formidable lvl 5 tanker.

In the end you want your ship to be completely passive. Your DPS will suck, but you will tank it all and that's the point.

Yeah, we were running them with a nighthawk, but our Caldari CS pilot is leaving the corp Sad
I might train up my Caldari BS and get a rattlesnake.

I tank my caldari lvl 5's with my onyx, 93/91 kinetic/thermal resists.. i go fully passive with 3x s95a shield transporters on it. tanks roughly 5k dps(kinetic/thermal dmg)

No vessel on it's own has to big a tank to accomplish a full level 5 agro. Support vessels are the key. Send in a Nighthawk accompanied by a Basilisk and a couple of DPS boats with 1 shield and 1 cap transfer.

This makes me curious, is it possible to solo level 5 missions in anything smaller than a capital ship, and still do so in a timely fashion?(meaning, in a short enough period that the effort itself is worth it beyond the ubiquitous level 4s)

Since level 5s happen in low-sec (or are meant to happen there), the risk/cost factor is obviously very important.

For that reason I'd say the best Caldari ship is the Drake. Low signature radius combined with a BS sized passive tank, and almost BC speed makes it the best all round option considering that it's practically free.

No need to weep when it gets shot down in a gate camp or gets jumped in the mission area.

LVL 5's are easy with Raven or CNR and rep Domi setup. Passive CNR 4 BCu's with Sentry Domi..makes it fast too.

You can solo some of them in bs's/marauders but it's counterproductive.
Raven/CNR + Dominix doesn't work so well, reason is high CPU requirements by shield transfers which will lead you to fitting co-procs, which in turn will make you cap booster dependent on the Domi; Rokh is better for this.

Afaik, there is one ship that can tank passively on shield every lvl 5, but the cost of it is ... very prohibitive. :)

Auguror Navy Issue with Trimarks, 2 1600s, Energised resistance ....

With decent mods and gang bonuses you end up with about 100k EHP and a nice low sig radius. Easily kept alive as a DPS-sink by 1 or 2 LRARs.
Fit some small projectiles and a few drones too and you can have fun setting off spawn triggers to the amusement of your gangmates :D

Maud' Dib, are you talking about the Rattlesnake?

and everyone, what would be the most ideal passive setup for a RS?
For simplicity, just use T2 modules (even though on this ship it should prob be officer +)
Try for a completely solo tank, no remote reps...
The damage from drones/crap missiles will be okay since a gank ship will be running too

i do them solo with a vulture and a great deal of patience. full room agro isn't a problem for a good vulture setup. just avoid drones and mins is all.

Raven/cnr/golem with domi support works for all lvl 5 Ive done. Dominix has 2 energy transfers and 4 shield transfers. Neut heavy missions need 5 passive hardeners but others just need 5 active hardeners. Siege II with 4 dms mods and target painters on the raven/cnr/golem and sentry set to assist on the dominix.
Dominix has 1 large repper and eanm to tank new spawns that aggro but they are killed fast most of the time so there is no need to warp out.
Just read up on the missions on eve-survival.com and know the triggers. Its pretty easy once you know the missions abit.

Drake is the correct answer!

Since everything is a risk in Eve you need to limit your exposure to misadventure or hostile action.

How much DPS must a lvl5 tank handle? I made a rattlesnake fit that would with my 8mil SP have about 2000dps passive tank with a few invul fields.
Crap dps though, only the four launchers and some drones, but still a nice tank

The problem is that the tanking ship has to be able to tank them without any cap at all. This means fully passive setups, with remote repping, are the way to go.

I have soloed some kin/therm ones in an Ishtar in a not too untimely fashion. But the isk/hour is nothing to write home about.

We run the missions in highsec so there is not much risk other than the DPS of the lvl 5... hence the reason behind searching for a passive rattlesnake fit that can handle the damage with a remote rep or 2.

For Gal lvl 5's a nighthawk or vulture can solo passive tank the entire mission with no problem

Lvl 5's require a minimum 1000 DPS tank and will require remote repping. To Solo a lvl 5 you have be able to produce a minimum 2000 fully passive tank. I have not encountered a lvl 5 mission that doesn't have a nuet tower.

The best combination I have seen is a fully passive nighthawk with a remote shield rep/sentry dominix. This has been done dual boxing and with two people.

As far as isk/hour it's the same if not a little worse than lvl 4's. However the amount of LP you get is incredible and puts your isk/hour above lvl 4's.

Those interested in doing lvl 5's have to remember that lvl 5's were designed to be done by more than one person. It is very hard (but not impossible) to do them solo. Since CCP has made EVE almost require more than one account it is possible to dual box lvl 5's and essentially "solo" lvl 5's.

Just make sure you keep your eye on the D-scanner so you know when to GTFO!!

No, it has issues with sig. I'm not going to say which ship is but it's pretty obvious if you think about it - nor am i going to mention the setup. I got it from someome else, i don't use it myself but i consider that it is ... his setup.
It can tank them but you need lots of deadspace mods, shield comps at 5, gang bonuses, and forget about any damage dealing with that ship.

PS: Also, the navy augoror ideea might work, but only if you do them for minmatar - as you fight amarr. EHP is not important in this, it's all about insanely high resists and fast lock with RR.

This is very solid. The only problem i think there is vs missions like "The Fortress", where you might need to forego the cap transfer and go full shield transfer.

Also, in this setup, the Domi pilot will become outlaw to the opposing faction as well, not just the Golem/CNR/Raven pilot.

A Drake can certainly handle some lvl 5s solo; just be prepared to fly it and do so for some time.

A fully passive shield recharge Ishtar will tank over 2000 DPS against kinetic.

There is no better way of finding out what works for you than trying it.

Smaller ships need shield extenders to pull off the passive tank which balloons out their sig radius, the Rattlesnake doesn't as its shield is big enough stock. You can quite easily get over a 2k passive tank RS but it will also pump out over 700dps using siege missiles+drone or 600 dps using cruise+drones. That will significantly out-dps a Drake or Nighthawk.

Ishtar was popular because it had good kinetic/thermal resists and relied heavily on drone damage with a big drone bay.

I'd rather lose an Ishtar than a RS though, a fair bit of a price difference.
