How do I transfer ISK or items from one character to another? I can see how I might do this using the contracts system but I wonder if there is another way that does not invoke broker fees.

For ISK just find the character, can be done in People and Places, right click and give money.

For items you can trade with them if they are online and in the same station as you. Or you can do it in open space; one jettisons the stuff and the other picks it up. But that is dangerous since anyone can take it.

Thanks for that, I'll just outline the motivation for the question. I want to transfer items between my alts across systems.

I was minded to set up a private contract with no fee so as to transfer ownership and then set up a second contract, this time for a courier, to move the goods across systems.

Is this sensible?

If you want to have your goods moved some systems it will cost you quite some ISK to get soemone to do it for you.

If you want to use your alt to haul the goods, you don't need a courier contract. Just contract him the actual goods and have him fly with a hauler to the station to pick them up.

Are they on the same account? If so, contracts are often the best. When I was a newer player, I started a corp and rented a cheap office 10k ISK per month and dumped all my items into the corp hangar so that all characters had access - I figured 10k per month or 10k per contract it made sense, the corp cost about 1.6m ISK, but I still have it today and I still have several characters in the corp.

If the characters are on different accounts, then you can both go to the same station and open a trade window. Go to the station tab, select 'guests' and find your alt. right click -> trade and follow the prompts.

This leads to another method for characters on the same account that isn't quite so safe, but if you have a trusted friend it can work. You get your friend into station with your main and do a direct trade (as above). Your friend holds the items, while you log out and log in your alt, then trades them back to your alt. Make sure you trust the third party though - there's nothing forcing him to give anything back.

You should have all your alts in your buddy list - so if you want to transfer ISK, you can use the 'give money' option from the right click menu in the buddy list.
