Solo pilots?
One man corps?

Any room for them in EVE? Can you get far? Will CCP ever cater to them as well?
Or should they retire?

Definitely possible - but difficult.

One man corp here. I do just fine.

Worth a decent sum in assets at this point, working on anchoring a pos for research on my alt at some point.

Depends on how much you can take getting blown up by fleets when you go to lowsec, how boring it can be to grind missions solo etc.

Join a few chat channels like EVE-RADIO and such and it's not so bad. (don't forget to listen to eve radio too :P)

Faction warfare is tailor made for daring solo pilots. Plenty of opportunities to kill at the gates or missions and plex for even a newish player.

Solo pilots? - yep

One man corps? - yep

Any room for them in EVE? - lots of room

Can you get far? - not sure what this is asking... make isk? yes .. train skills? yes

Will CCP ever cater to them as well? - just like the everyone else, it's whatever you carve for yourself out of the sandbox

Or should they retire? - whatever makes 'em happy

You can fly solo, or one man corp. There isn't anything to stop you.

Only problem is that eventually you'll come across a 50 man corp that does the same thing you do 50 times better.

You are in a cruel, violent, bloodthirsty universe dominated by powerful mega corporations and large empires. Depends on your definition of getting far. If you survive, then yeah, your getting pretty far.

The great thing about the game though is carving your own path. However don't expect CCP to give handouts to make things easier for you.

And whats that? Blobbing a target to death with 50 ships worth of alpha strike and reusing over and over the simplest tactical scenario in the history of warfare: Attrition? Because it's obviously not personal skill or daring that makes a 50 ship blob 50 times better. ugh

Means you share less. The enemy is unlikely to get rich off of you alone. If in a war an enemy is likely to be starved of targets everytime you log off if they fight you alone. You won't get backstabbed by your corpmates because you have none. You get to be your own boss and a compulsory op is anything you want to do.

EVE is one of the few MMO's where a single player can amass great wealth, e-fame or whatever it is that you desire.

PvP will be more difficult to do solo but it's perfectly doable.

My favorite 'solo' player (he flies with friends occasionally, though) is Kane Rizzel. I like his stories. I can read them at work, but they'll probably proxblock that one soon as well.

Lone wolf here, still playing and enjoying it.

It's definitely doable, though you'll find it harder to do some things (like level 5s - the problem is finding people you can trust not to stab ya in the back once the mission's done). Some parts of lowsec/0.0 can be harder solo as well.

Personally, I don't recommend one-player corps. They're doable, but you lose a lot of the benefits of a corporation (other peeps you can mostly trust) and become wardeccable.

A lot of the metagame in lowsec/0.0 is really only doable at the corporation/alliance level - it's up to you whether or not you find that appealing to you.

Admittedly, after a while the PvE portion of EvE can and will pale and options for PvP are somewhat limited, but doable. ESPECIALLY if you multibox :)

Not sure if this counts as solo play, but you could go freelance and offer services to player corporations. Obviously you would need good skills (and previous experience from player corps) to make your services attractive and to come up with a good business concept, plus some personal PR so people would trust you. I'd say some rather exciting challenges could be had that way. Some 0.0 alliance needs intel on hostile installations? No problem! You can go and get it... for a price.

In general, there must be many players labeled "carebears" (of various sorts) that like solo play/freelancing in a more casual fashion. CCP has to cater to them to keep them as a part of the player (read: subscriber) base. But Eve works best when you have a few buddies to help you out (if just give advice and provide services) in a corp.

Yep.

The biggest advantage is that you're constrained only by your own schedule and thus have free reign to waste your enemies time. You can walk away from the computer when you're station camped, cloaked in a safespot, or log out mid warp to escape a pursuing blob (possible to still catch someone doing this but I've never had it happen to me). Then you come back an hour later when no one is paying attention and do what you set out to do.

Also a good idea to fly mostly cheap **** so your inevitable explosion will only be a minor setback. You can take more risks and get more experience that way too.

This subject comes up every now and again. The answer is: it depends what you want to do. If you want to earn with PvE, it's great - no taxes, no having to spend time doing corp "work", etc. I've been solo for years, but then I can't usually stomach actually playing the game more than few months at a time. I get bored with it you see.

I play alone most of the time, and i like it. It's nice to solo in a world full of players doing their own thing, it makes the game feel very much alive. But i also like the freedom of not being attached for now. I do whatever i feel like whenever i feel like it and make a decent amount of isk doing it. I never have to wait for anyone - which is a big plus. I hardly ever get help either, but that's perfectly okay.

I do however use two accounts, to battle the slow pase of Eve's gameplay in general, but also to be able to explore every race and their ships, weapons and quirks. I fly anything that moves and use every weapon system i want just because. It's a slow way of exploring the game skill wise (broad and no real specialization), but it also keeps me from burning out on it :)

Quite a challenge, and the game is not designed to encourage it, but IT IS possible. Luck tends to play a big factor but it's not the only one.

Solo corp signing in in this thread.

15m skill point frigate only pilot but I'm an idiot so that helps.

It's definitely possible, just be prepared to work within limitations.

I'm in a one man corp, and I've been solo since I started 6 months ago. I plan to join a corp, but for the time being, Im quite happy building my isk by playing the markets, and running the missions for more ISK and experience. Not being in a Corp makes it easier to leave my implants in and fly fairly safely, so that I can get my SP up to a reasonable level.

Im not sure why you would want to stay on your own long term - I'm sure the social aspect of a corp adds a massive amount to the game, and I cant wait to join a corp in the New Year.

Check out the videos: "The Rocket Wizard" and "Rocket Witchcraft". Its solo missile action although in the witchcraft video he does have an alt in a claymore.

Been playing Eve in "massively singleplayer" mode for over 3 years. Still going strong. I think of it as Eve on hard mode.

Seen plenty of soloers in lowsec and 0.0 doing well for themselves. Everything from solo roams deep into enemy territory to solo bubble & smartbombing battleship camps. Blobbing can be a lot of fun but there's plenty of opportunity to join in on impromptu blobs even as a solo player.

In short, CCP doesn't have to do anything. It's a sandbox -- choose your own turd.
