I was in the middle of downloading the full Dominion Mac client earlier. It got to 50% and stopped dead. I'm using a file download manager (Folx). Attempts to resume the half-complete download as well as starting a new download fail.

Downloaded the 101786-->117956 patch just fine before and after the failed full client download. Other file downloads are not affected.

Was the full client taken down? Is there another reason why it won't work?

Here is the full Dominion installer for Mac. http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/mac/eve-premium_003225_117956-mac.dmg

It has not been moved. Does that link work for you?

Okay. After some testing, the issue seems to be something to do with settings on this Mac. Or it could be some limitation of my ISP.

If I try to download the full client without any download manager, it never actually starts downloading. It shows up in the Downloads window (of Firefox 3.5.5), but doesn't do anything. I've left it like that for an hour just to make sure I wasn't being impatient.

If I try downloading it with Folx download manager set to one thread, it downloads 1.18KB and stops dead. No amount of cajoling/praying/ranting/raving will get it to resume.

If I try downloading it with Folx download manager set to multiple threads, it starts downloading normally. Eventually the threads die one by one and the download stops dead.

Right now, I've got it downloading with five threads and it's at 17% with no errors. I'm limited to about 260KB/s, so the 2.7GB file is going to take a good long time.

Smaller downloads continue to have no issues. This is rather frustrating.

Well, this time the download got to 1.69GB before dying. I think I'm going to leave it and try resuming tomorrow - maybe I'm hitting some sort of limit in Folx or with my ISP.

Is there a philosophical reason why you haven't tried Safari?

Yes. I don't like Safari, for the same reason I don't like Internet Explorer. Microsoft and Apple have their go-to browsers, but I don't want to use either one.

For the sake of solving this problem, I tried downloading the full client with Safari. Same problem as with Firefox - the file appears in the Downloads window, but doesn't actually download.

I also upgraded to Snow Leopard, just in case this was some limitation with Tiger. Still no joy on non-managed downloads of the full client. I tried resuming the half-completed download from yesterday, but it wouldn't budge ... probably because it was taken down and replaced by a new client version. I've started downloading the new (118495) full client with Folx, currently at 7.0%. Yesterday, the downloads stopped at 1.35GB and 1.69GB. Maybe with a new OS and client version, I can get the whole damn thing. I'm hopeful, but expecting it to quit again - I'm fairly certain the problem is with the ISP here, which is Qwest.

Wish me luck...

Your choice is yours but over a number of OS X iterations, always using Safari I have never had much of a problem. The one after Revelations I could not download through the client. You just go to the EVE page and download the client there. I have a pretty decent connection, it worked every time.

The latest iterations, with Apocrypha and now Dominion have been nothing but a solid experience. Not fast, but no hangs and no failed installations.

Good luck!

I have a similar problem.

After patching to Dominion 1.0 the client won't start at all (yes, I cleared the cache).

So I decided to download the full client and try it this way.

But the download stops after a while (the while varies) with the notification "Aktivierung fehlgeschlagen" (sorry for german).

I try to download with Safari.

I am using a Mac Book Pro, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB Ram, MAC OS X Version 10.4.11

As I suspected, the download died again. This time it was at the 1.35GB (50%) point.

Summary:
White iMac 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 RAM
Mac OS X 10.4.11 and 10.6.2
Safari 4.0.4 and Firefox 3.5.5

When attempting to download the full EVE client from either browser, the file appears in the Downloads window, but doesn't actually download.

When attempting to download the full EVE client with Folx download manager, the download starts normally, but dies after an annoyingly long time (so far, twice at 1.35GB and once at 1.69GB). Attempts to resume the failed download are ineffective.

Note: Smaller files (including EVE patches) download fine.

I'm thinking it's my ISP. Is there anything else it could be?

FWIW, I'm also having a similar problem. I cannot download the full client directly from ccp.vo.llwnd.net. It tends to die (for me) around the 100-200mb mark, but it seems pretty random. Only consistent thing is that the download dies. Using curl on the command line:

$ curl http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/mac/eve-premium_003225_118495-mac.dmg -o eve-premium_003225_118495-mac.dmg

... gives me (tried to download 5 times):

curl: (18) transfer closed with 2751295339 bytes remaining to read
curl: (18) transfer closed with 2735077515 bytes remaining to read
curl: (18) transfer closed with 2767987731 bytes remaining to read
curl: (18) transfer closed with 2772358843 bytes remaining to read
curl: (18) transfer closed with 2680461291 bytes remaining to read

Error code 18 is "Partial file. Only a part of the file was transferred." according to the man page.

And unfortunately, resume (-C -) does not work :(

I removed the Folx beta from my system and installed Speed Download instead. Seems to be a good one, as it shows up as one of Apple's Staff Picks on their site. I'm now trying one last time to get the frickin' thing to download.

Assuming that fails, is there anyone willing to download the newest full Mac client, burn it to DVD, and mail it to me? ISK reward will be transferred when I'm able to log in. Contact me at leaps.from.shadows at gmail dot com for further info.

I successfully downloaded the Dominion 1.0 full client just now, and patched it (using the auto-patcher). 1.0.1 full download still fails :/

Haven't tried the others yet.

Confirming Dominion 1.0.1 has serious problems: tried several methods and never managed to download it.

Downloading Dominion 1.0 did work (used DownThemAll! Firefox's plugin).

I'm trying the other files too, will report later.

Update:
the three patch files came down with no problem. Apo full installs are still downloading and are ok so far.

Second update:
Apo 1.5.1 came down no problem. But 1.3 did not. Tryed it multiple times and it keeps timing out after a while.

In other words all the files listed by Casqade do work except for Apo 1.3 full install and Domi 1.0.1 full install. Those two keep timing out after a while no matter what tool I use and how many segments I download at a time. DNS load balancing does work (checked with netstat and the server ips do rotate, but it seems all servers are having the same problems with those two files).

Currently best option is to grab Domi 1.0 full and then the patch to 1.0.1

On an unrelated note I also confirm client instability and a tendency to corrupt the settings files. Not only "cache" but "settings" too (a friend even told me he was unable to use an account but having no problems with the alt accounts). I strongly suggest fellow Mac players start clean, setup all the accounts and characters and then logout and backup settings and cache folders.

I have a Macbook Pro dual core 2.0GHz with 1GB DDRs SD Ram.

Downloaded the patch which installed just file. I ran the client for about 15 minutes when it froze. I have not been able to open it since. Downloaded and installed just fine with Safari

Was that the patch or the full install? The patch does download fine, absolutely no problems with it.

I can download Dominion 1.00 full client and then patch it (either from ingame, or by downloading the update).
Still unable to download 1.01 full. Again, tried Safari, Opera, FF.

Started DownThemAll! on it. DNS rotation picked 87.248.195.178
Will update you in about 45 minutes if it comes down ok.

Edit:
Confirming it now does work. Got 1.0.1 full install down with no timeout. Mounted the image without skipping the checksum verification (boring!) and it passed it and mounted properly.

Situation update:

Still no-go on downloading the Mac full client. Latest attempt at downloading 1.0.2 client failed at 66%. Patches download successfully, but do me no good as I have no client to update.

Is there any repair tool type of thing that can be used on the Mac? It would be nice if I could download that and use it to download the individual files that comprise the EVE app. Or what about breaking the full client into smaller chunks to download and have the installer put them together locally?

I'm not in the condition to try to verify if 1.0.2 can be downloaded or not (UMTS connection FTL) for the next 6 or 7 hours. However if you can DL the the 1.0.1 client and the patch to 1.0.2 you'll probably be able to play.

This is coming much later than I expected, but whatever: CCP does not pay me.

The current full client install image http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/mac/eve-premium_003259_119404-mac.dmg did not pose any problem for me: it downloaded at first attempt with DownThemAll!

The patch from the previous client version http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/mac/evepremiumpatch118495-119404-mac.tgz also came down with no problem.

Therefore I'm sorry I cannot confirm your claim, Warezmy. I suggest you try again using a download manager. If you still have problems post again, possibly specifying where you are (or best, what IP has the server with the failing download), as it may well be that only some servers have a problem..

Summary:

1). Patch downloads work just fine, even with basic browsers (no download manager needed).
2). Full downloads do not work at all with basic browsers - stays at 'Starting' indefinitely. Tried Firefox 3.5.5 and Safari 4.0.4 browsers.
3). Tried download managers (Folx beta, Speed Download 5.2.7/5.2.8, DownThemAll! 1.1.7). They all start the download normally, but it times out at varying points (1.35GB or 1.69GB). I have no idea how to tell which download server IP I'm connecting to, so I can't give you that.

Given the above...

50 MILLION ISK REWARD offered to a good Samaritan with a Mac who downloads the full 1.0.2 Mac client, burns it to DVD, and (after E-Mailing me at leaps.from.shadows at gmail.com to get my address) mails it to me. Once I get logged in, the first thing I will do is transfer the ISK. That amount should more than compensate for the time and effort involved in sending the DVD to me. My general area is Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the good ol' USA.

I needs me some EVE, darn it!

Considering I'm in Europe and the cost of an intercontinental DHL, It'll be much better for me to sell a GTC.

Plus it's not a good idea for you to trust an eve player Twisted Evil

But you may try an alternative: use a DL manager o your choice and start downloading the OLD full clients. Links are in this thread. If ANY one works, you can then go with that and patches (downloading patches is generally not a problem).

Once you are on track again, do what I do:
- keep a copy of the full client on a backup
- and all the patches from that to current (means you never autopatch and always manual patch)
- do not delete any of the above until you have successfully downloaded a newer full client

Also ... just duplicate the current client before patching it and do not delete the copy until the patch has succeeded. If the patching fails and corrupts the client, you have a copy.

I do all of the above on top of time machine backups AND frequent SuperDuper! backups.

Another update:

Tried downloading the Apocrypha 1.5.1 full client. It started downloading fine, keeping to the expected average download speed. It got to 1.69GB and nearly died, getting as low as 21KB/s or so. After that, the download speed varied considerably from second to second, and it finally died completely at the 1.95GB point. I don't know why this attempt got farther than the others, and I don't know why the download itself was unstable speed-wise after hitting 1.69GB.

Query for CCP devs:

Is there an older complete client download that is less than 1.69GB in size, that would still allow me to patch to the newest version (with the patch also being less than 1.69GB in size)? Maybe I can hit some sort of happy medium...

I think I finally found a way to get this damn thing working...

I went out and bought the EVE retail box. The version in the box is 74306, which gives a patch-to-current size of 1.9GB - likely a failure size. However, I can patch from 74306 to 93706 first, which is a 1.51GB download. Then patching 93706-to-current is only 623MB or so. Yes, it's a few extra steps, but it looks like it might work. Unfortunately I won't be able to test this method out for another 12 hours or so.

Anyway, wish me luck. I'll be praying to the Mac and gaming gods overnight and attempting this process first thing tomorrow morning.

Warezmy, if you'd like I can cook up an unseeded BitTorrent file that will treat the EVE client download as a webseed. Basically it will download from CCP's servers and do BitTorrent-style piece-checking, which means you're guaranteed to get the correct file in the end.

It would be easier to burn to DVD the current client (the one that you are playing with).

The "full installation" download is nothing but a disk image containing it.

That's basically the same as backing up the current client, which is something that should be always done before upgrading.
