The patchnotes for Dominion say: Quote: Voice fonts have been added to chat channels.
But what exactly does that mean? What are voice fonts? |

They change your voice. Log into Singularity and try them out.
1. Press ESC 2. Go to the "Audio & Chat" tab 3. Click "Change Voice Font" on the right 4. Speak to your best friend using EVE Voice |

all you have to do now is make the eve launcher be a shell for the eve game, as in it stays open while eve is running.
Then tie new eden, and everything within to this shell for eve.
thus voice chat will not stop if the eve.exe crashes, because it will really only be a shell for the eve.exe
Once eve voice is pull away form the eve client I know I for one will use it over teamspeak. |

I'm not sure i've understood this correctly: does it change the sound of your voice?? So other people will not hear your real voice but a modified voice??
If so: why? What can it be used for? |

Ohh nice addition to eve voice! The only one that is missing is the child font so fc's can make all the gang uncomfortable in their macho by having a seeming 10 year old who is making all the right calls boss them around and berate them when they screw up. Me and a mate tried this on sisi when we formed an anti rring bs squad to clear the wtz at ffa1. He didn't speak until everyone was on vent then he used a font to make him sound like a kid. It all went downhill from there even though we beat the rr guys handily due to his micromanegment of our inferior force and he was perfectly polite and businesslike the whole time. So when we warped to a planet to regroup the older arsehats in the gang rebelled then blew up his ship and podded him. We laughed our arses off at them when he revealed he was actually 45 years old when he turned off the font. Needless to say they all spat a few uncomplimentary things in fleet then bailed. Glorious! |

I hope i'm not the only person who see's no use at all for this as few fleets use EV and more use vent and seriously did you actually waste manhours adding such a useless feature? |

Id bet its a step towards ambulation. You wouldnt want manly voices from female avatars breaking the atmosphere, I guess. |

You have GOT to be kidding, did they really waste time on bull**** like that? I'd think there'd be more important issues to work on. |

While I respect your opinion, I hope you realize that there are over 300000 subscribers and not all of them want the same thing. Something you don't like might be the best thing that ever happened to someone else and vice versa. And as you can clearly see from the patch notes of this expansion, it wasn't the only thing we created/changed/fixed. |

All the combined ops i've been in during my eve career, only once have i had to have vent for them. Also, this is for future use with walking in stations where it will probably see increased use for when people are just milling around in the stations talking to people they walk into who they've never previously heard of. |

Can't really think of another reason either. It isn't a bad feature and I can have some fun with it, but I doubt they would have invested resources on it at this time unless it was something they wanted for ambulation. |

When you hear the voices in the trailer you know what i mean. Really... if you only can make your voice sound like a girl or child now, i would say thats a waste of ressouces which should have gone into more important areas. |

Hm I don't know about the exact back story but you're in a pod of goo controlling everything with your thought. So IŽd guess your speech is actually a thought too, which would mean giving it any acoustic form would be no problem anyway - and spaceship shutter sounds would be way inappropriate |

Jovian Wet Grave; He opens his mouth to talk back and just gets a mouth full of goo. And all it needs is a filter to cut out the low and hi end. Mid tones sounds very much like a low-fi radio. |

I'm still waiting for the out of game client that's tied directly into the API system.
The honest truth is that most PVP corps/alliance's won't use EVE Voice, because the individual members use multiple accounts so you have to make sure each account is in the gang which doesn't always happen with alts, scouts, market alts, empire alts and all the other alts there are.And if you log out of eve, you are logged out of EVE Voice.
I know you guys are doing it a step at a time, but an out of game eve client would have been better from the ground floor. Get people used to useing an API useing Out of Game EVE Voice client app, THEN add all these little addons to it THEN..

thnx :). But i think i can wait 2 more days now. then, i will get it anyway. IF it can do what i expect, it would be quite cool, because i had something similar in my mind what i wanted to suggest to put in Eve. It would help RP corps a lot, what i like. |

Edited by: Chinwe Rhei on 29/11/2009 20:11:35 Actually i've seen a decent number of fleets using EvE voice. It's the best tool if you just want to chat with someone you meet ingame, or want to organise a fleet on the spot, or with people from different groups without endangering security, etc... Also it's free and you don't need to run an extra program along with EvE which is a bother.
I think people who say nobody uses EvE voice tend to be those that are pretty isolated from the general population and mostly just hang out in their own corp and shoot everyone else.

I never said it was the only thing done and the rest seems fine but seriously does EVE really need a voice changer :/ People who have extreme issues with sounding like a man using a female char already know of solutions to achieve the desired goal, hell i know one and i've even used it to fool a corpie once but apart from that i can see no real use for it, but sure add more stuff to break, on a side note when are we going to be able to disable these "optional extras" from being installed in the first place, i have loads of HDD space but you know i like to trim the fat and remove stuff i have no use for :P |
