I don't know about best for a long time. Neutral I don't get how the 1 stoppers could be so quick, although in fairness the Brawns were simply faster than everything else out there. Okay, I do get it, but I don't gotta likes it. Kovaleinnen went backwards and Hamilton...I almost want to cry Crying or Very sad I was on my feet for Q3 in qualifying yesterday, loved his start and first stint, lost most interest when it was clear Hamilton couldn't keep hold of 1st (after the Brawns pitted) and when he crashed out I changed the channel. Crying or Very sad

Well done Barichello it has to be said, he and Button both drove superbly. Wouldn't it be fantastic if he can take the world championship over Button? Though Jensen has had a a great season and I do like the guy, he's done well, will be exciting if he wins the title too. Cool

Sutil had to be man of the weekend though, so quick!!! Shocked If not for KERS he'd have had Kimi twice over. The ironic thing is KERS was meant to facilitate overtaking when in reality it's actual done the exact opposite. They're ditching it next season, right? Either that, or restrict how many times it can be used in a race. Kinda feel bad for Webber, but Red Bull had a rubbish weekend all around so...

Moral victory goes To Brawn, the man himself. Success follows where he goes and NOT the (previous) teams who get to claim his victories.

Brawn is a fantastic engineer. I really wanted Brawn GP to win at the start of this season, and I'm so glad they're doing it.

Dont know whether it was the best race for ages but its turning out to be the best season for ages.
Rubens or Jenson for the title? hmmmmmm.
I'd love to see Jenson win it but knowing that, in all likelyhood, Rubens will be dropped by Brawn after this season means i'm starting to hope Rubens win it. Its not anything Rubens has done wrong and its not a choice Ross Brawn would like to make but, with an Abu-Dabi investment firm coming in at the end of this season favouring Rosberg as part of their investment package, Rubens will find himself without a drive. If he wins the title he could either retire or take any drive offered by another team. If he doesnt win he might find it impossibly hard to find another drive as hes 37.
Brawn has to survive as a team and that means money. Unfortunately that means whomever invests has some clout in deciding the drivers. Thats the nature of the beast im afraid.
Ross Brawn is a good team leader and a very good man manager but he knows the reality of F1 and all that that entails. He took 2 out of work drivers, gave them a chance to outshine their rivals in a good car. They paid him back with their winning ways. Now Brawn has to look to the future for the team and all his current investers.

Renault have just got rid of Pat Symmonds and Briatore over the crash scandal, should be interesting to see if Renault still get punished.

Flavio Briatore has left his position as boss of the Renault team after they decided not to contest charges of fixing the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix.

Executive director of engineering Pat Symonds has also left the team.

Renault were summoned by governing body, the FIA, after Nelson Piquet Jr claimed he had been asked to crash to help team-mate Fernando Alonso's race.

An FIA spokesperson confirmed a World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris on Monday would go ahead.

Renault have been called to answer charges that they "conspired with Nelson Piquet Jr to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix with the aim of causing the deployment of the safety car to the advantage of its other driver, Fernando Alonso".

The hearing will attempt to attribute responsibility for the Singapore "crash-gate" despite the news that Briatore and Symonds have left Renault.

The FIA could still impose sanctions if Renault are found guilty, including excluding the team from the championship, although that must be considered unlikely given the two people Piquet said were responsible have now left the team.
Flavio Briatore
Briatore has lost his job over the Singapore race-fix charge

Piquet crashed in Singapore two laps after Alonso had come in for a routine pit stop.

That meant that when race officials sent out the safety car to clear up the debris from Piquet's car, Alonso was alone among the front-runners in not having to stop for fuel and tyres.

Renault's double world champion went on to take the chequered flag at Formula 1's inaugural night race and claim his first victory in two years.

At the time, Piquet attributed the crash to a simple error, but after being dropped by the team after July's Hungary GP the race-fixing allegations emerged.

The Brazilian has since testified to the FIA that he was instructed by Briatore and Symonds when and where to crash.

606: DEBATE
I can only think that Renault will want to get out of F1 now to save their reputation which would be a terrible shame,

Renault's response was to accuse the 24-year-old and his father Nelson Piquet of false allegations and blackmail, going as far as saying they would begin legal action against them.

But on Wednesday the team in a statement they would "not dispute the recent allegations made by the FIA concerning the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix."

The statement added: "The team also wishes to state that its managing director, Flavio Briatore and its executive director of engineering, Pat Symonds, have left the team."

BBC pundit and former team boss Eddie Jordan said he was surprised by Renault's announcement but believes it was effectively an admission of guilt.

"By suggesting they are not going to contest the allegations is in itself an admission," Jordan told the BBC.

"That's how I see it. Legally, there may be another argument. I think this is a clear-cut admission and I am surprised.

I never liked Briatore anyway. To find out he is a cheat doesnt suprise me one bit.
Its not the first time Briatore's team have been caught cheeting.
I remember Benetton Ford using illegal fuel back in the 94 season. He got away with it that time. Glad justice has been done this time.

As for Brawn GP. I hope they win the constructors title. They so deserve it after only their first season in F1. I have a feeling Button is loosing his bottle.
The title is very close for him now. "So near but yet so far"

Can;t believe they would get their driver to "crash", piquet was quiet capable at crashing on his own!

I was kinda shocked to hear they've effectively admitted it to be honest.

Next season will be interesting for sure, but it'd be a shame to see Renault withdraw over this.

Just another high profile sport to suffer at the hands of cheaters, Tbh the driver who puts himself and other drivers/spectators at risk by being told to crash his car and say nothing for that length of time is appalling.

As I recall Senna and Prost did some outlandish things in their day so nothing new here, tis a shame for the fans though.
I slowly lost interest in F1 when Mansell retired, Deamon Hill rekindled my interest but rarely watch it now.Sad

Apologies for being off topic.Embarassed

So the FIA and WMSC verdict is in.

Official F1 Website

Personally I think they were far too lenient.

Flavio Briatore got what he deserved, however Pat Symonds recieved only a five year ban and Nelson Piquet remains untouched. Renault also got off extremely lightly.

The FIA and WMSC need to take a step back and ask what would have happened had Nelson Piquet NOT lost his drive at Renault? Would this even have ever came to light if he hadn't been bitter about the termination of his contract and decided to drop the ball on Renault F1?

Frankly, this sport is going downhill fast and money seems to do the talking more than common sense and good sportsmanship.

Briatore is in the best position possible, he's out of F1 permanently.

Symonds should be the same, not just for five years.

Piquet should lose his super license immediately and permanently for going along with the plan and putting other drivers, track officials and spectators at risk.

Renault should be stripped of all constructors points this year, and banned from competing in Formula One or acting as an engine supplier for a minimum of five years.

There's been too much stupid and ridiculous behaviour in F1 in the last couple of years. The sport really needs to return to its roots and get back to good racing.

disgaree that they got off lightly, they got a suspended two year ban for crying out loud, and also remember that they held their own investigation and got rid of britore and simmonds so that weighed HEAVILY in their favour, they condoned all actions taking by those two.
HOWEVER I think Piquet got off lightly, as Martin brundle britains f1 commentor said piquet is a man, he is capable of making his own decisions...but he won't get a F1 drive again thats for sure, who would employ me, slow and a grass lol.
Sadly this year has been troubled with off the track problems, but for racing it's been one hellva year!

I think it's a moot point, I think Renault want out anyway, there needs to be a lot of changes in all areas of F1, it will be interesting to see who will replace Mosely, hopefully it wont be Todt, I love the conspiracy theories of Ferrari bias and with him as president it will fuel those fires even more, Ecclstone can f**k off as well.

When Looking back at the McLaren fiasco who were fined $100,000000, Renault got off lightly. As they are major engine supplier to several teams, was in their favour when judgement was given, no surprises there.

Confirming FIA is corrupt to the core.

Rumour has it that Piquet's father (Nelson Piquet) was the one who informed the FIA about his sons stupidity and shameful shenanigans.

Thing is ofcourse that NOT acting properly on it is even worse and will haunt them.

Clear case of being too scared to properly govern the situation, resulting in more problems later on. Bad management.

Renault cant push anything for 2 years so they have close to no chance of winning anything
lifetime ban fo flav i think is alittle harsh and the fact he was the only person not offered immunity speaks volumes imo
kudos to pat s for taking it on the chin and not taking the immunity i think it shows that hes telling the truth n it was pk who came up with the idea

and if pk ever gets another drive in f1 ill be surprised and disappointed hes **** and a cheat and a **** cheat

I don't think renault have got off too lightly, a little maybe but not massively so, anyone else notice at Singapore all the Renault sponsors are no longer on the car, that will affect their income big time..

Also I would like to see todt become next FIA guy simply because he was sucessful in the sport, however I would hope he would lose all jobs and pay from ferrari, otherwise that would be just wrong
