Well what i see on that site isn't very hopeful. Quote:
Dust 514 will have affect on sovereignity if I read this correctly. |

Edited by: Davina Braben on 18/08/2009 12:09:03CONSOLES ONLY? Come on CCP, the PC is crying out for a MMOFPS The only people developing one at the moment are SOE and you know what they're like. They are bad if you don't know what they're like. Bring this to PC and you'll effectively have a relatively untapped market all to yourselves. Oh sure you're probably looking at PS and WW2OL going "I dunno. Those games didn't do so good." Well, WW2OL is a niche sim product. Planetside was mismanaged horribly by SOE. They've consistently just not developed it and when they have they have made very poor decisions (I could write you pages and pages on this topic but it all started going wrong with their first expansion). CCP would have done so much better with it because of your greater commitment to your products and smarter approach to the MMO market it's not even funny. So yeah. Don't let that put you off and don't let SOE have the only PC MMOFPS. |

You read it correctly, but that means not much, as it may be just a messed up translation. I dont think that Sov will be tied to Planet combat, would make no sense, as mentioned before in this Thread, what do we care for Planets? Especially the empty rocks found in 0.0? Maybe it will add posibilities to send mercs into outposts/Poses to take them over? But i dont think Planets will affect sov at all |

Indeed, skip to 3:10 and listen and he clearly states that the console players will directly effect 0.0 sov and the only way to get it in your favor is to pay console players to fight for you. Oh dear... |

its not a bad concept, the lore of eve pod pilots are demi gods, that their clones do work outside the pods on their ships, therefore making us podders pick up guns and star running around shooting people in the face was always problematic, and hence no fighting on stations.
while we always assumed this would be part on the same game, lest these games are linked by us demi gods giving orders to the dust crews to take or defend a planet, while we supposedly support them from the atmospheres of said worlds. me wonders how far along this atmospheric stuff is along, one would assume if this is indeed the way it works and with consoles having a finite life span and console users have the attention span of of about an 8 hour fps clone of halo or something it would be fairly far along in development.
i think hoping that xbox 360 or ps3 will be around say in 2 to 3 years and people still waiting for said game in ccps normal turn around time, these features are probably pretty solid and ready to be deployed in say a year at most.
maybe dust is why ambulation has been so slow to see the light of day, maybe the war rooms in ambulation will incorporate dust, imagine being able to view a whole sector of territory in the war room and assign missions to dust players on the console realm to bolster power and whatnot.
and how about this, maybe there will be a pc side for the dust expansion if they gave pod pilots mechs to use on planetary battles, it is conceivable that you could use a pod, have an escape or remote piloting ability, special drop ships could deliver the mechs to the hot spots to support the dust tactics, bit far fetched, but maybe the twinkle in the eye nudge nudge wink wink stuff is them keeping something along those lines under the hat til they can tease it and take 3 years more to incorporate it dust rising eve online expansion soon TM.
either way i hard see how this is all gloom or utter fail or ruining your eve online, hows come anything that does not directly involve blobling, start to ruin your eve onine? its just another layer of complexity to the game, that makes some good sense in the long run, assuming console players buy the game subscribe the game and it is worth playing and exciting.
course i worry how long console players would stick with it, how many of them would be willing to pay for a mmo subscription, mmos have struggled mightly on consoles generally speaking, and most never see the light of day due to that fact. and if you people will actually use it since you seem to have so much scorn for it. |

Right you are, my bad then. Hmm sounds not necessary like a perfect idea.... but well i guess we have to wait for the winter expansion, and see hwo sov will be reworked after all, maybe the whole Dust idea makes it really nice |

Edited by: Bonny Lee on 18/08/2009 12:03:05 I would love to be able to fly to a planet and join a battle with my battleship. First fly to the battle "dock" on the planet. Change the game step in the docked Battleship and kaaabaawuuum!
If my the dusty-consoleros kill my bs it will be gone in both games. |

What about the strategic cruiser firing missiles in the sky above the stairs - you see it at about 0:25 and again at 1:00. I haven't seen enough strategic cruisers obviously, but I'm wishing it could be a caldari T3 configured for planetary fire support... |

Ha ha, superb. I knew any sovereignty changes would make the 0.0 crowd whine, but this will provide a great deal more than expected. Btw. I think it is going to be awesome, and Hilmar also notes that fleet battles, POS and whatever else is also going to have an effect on sovereignty. |

the video would indicate that this will in fact be the case. LOL nice, this would really revolutzionize the whole mmo genre to never seen before levels |

So now we have fleet AND ground control coördination...
It's just a matter of time before CCP starts handing out wages to those coördinating inter-allaince operations in order to keep the game interesting (and letting alliance leaders keep their house and kids). |

You're coming at it from the wrong direction. Dust 514 is what miners will be playing on the console while waiting for the strip miners to cycle. |
