I've only been playing for three days, so there is a lot I don't know. A problem that I have run into several times, though, is that I take a mission, go to the given location and there is nothing there.
Once I didn't know to take the acceleration gate, and once I didn't know about 'Approach', but now I'm in a situation where there is nothing there again, No gate, and 'Approach' doesn't take me anywhere. What do I do next?
I'm in the fourth or fifth mission of the epic arc, and I'm supposed to find a data capsule, from a wreck I assume, but even with enhanced scanners I don't see anything except stations and gates. No ships at all.

???

There's nothing within an AU of the point I'm at that shows up on the display, and I'm using the Default Standard.

To go a little farther: Is there anyway to progress in an arc when you can't complete a mission?

What to do when you're stuck? Go mine and check back periodically? If something isn't there at first, and it shows up while you're not there, will it stay there until you get back?

I would try to not use the default standard overview then... Most likely you are missing some form of object or structure...

EDIT: And something is ALWAYS there;) you just didn't look close enough... trust me... If not it is a bug and "could" be petitioned...

Had something simular, change your overview setting and
just sellect everything
( save it under a diffrent tab, as it a lot of info )

When i am stuck in a mission, i just type in Google "eve *enter mission here*"

Up until now, it always provided a hint to solving the problem.
As with everything in life, Google helps :)

Can you suggest a filter change? There's supposed to be a ship wreck there and a data object near it. There are only 7 items on the display. Three moons and 4 gates. It's in Hererget.

Yeah, as others have suggested. Create a second tab for your overview and label it "All". Then go through the overview display settings for that tab and check everything to be displayed.

You'll find what you're missing.

^^This.

Whenever I go somewhere and what I'm expecting doesn't show up on the overview, I switch to the 'All' tab and take another look.

Play around with the overview settings and setup a tab called 'All' - then use the 'select all' button to enable everything. Only use it when you need to, it can be slow to load if you go through a gate with the all setting on.

Once you get some experience with the types of objects, create another tab called 'Missions' and set it up how you like it, then another for PvP, another for Recon, another for mining, exploration, whatever you find you need - I keep one called 'spare' and I can load up any of my pre-saved settings to that when I need to (I have about 8 or 9 pre-saved settings, but there's a limit of 6 tabs from memory).

It's a powerful tool when used - just click on the little triangle at the top left of your overview and you can change the settings around.

How do you know its from a wreck? It may be a station (or a can dropped in space) Look very carefully at the mission text, it often gives specific guidance as they are designed for new players.

Also if you haven't done the tutorials yet they are worth doing, not only for cash and free ships but also showing how objects appear in the game.

EDIT: And what do you mean '6.9AU' that does not make sense in the context of a mission area.

The mission is Data Retrieval for a Minmatar.

The mission brief says I'm to retrieve from a shipwreck.

I have All selected in the overview and the nearest object ot any kind is a stargate 6.9 AU away.

If you've tried everything and nothing seems to be working it may just be a bug, it happens. Sometimes you fly to a mission and theres just nothing there (rare, but happens). Just forfeit it and do another one, you lose VERY LITTLE from forfeiting one mission every now and then don't sweat it.

How do I forfeit? There's no time limit on the epic arc missions.

I always forget to accept the mission and then get out there and then there is nothing there.

Then I check the agent and found I forgot to accept and fly all the way back.

Also when I first started I didn't know how to use acceleration gates to get to the rest of the mission.

Very useful once you know how to right click and then use the gate.

I checked both of those things and they're OK. Still nothing at the location.

had the same thing happen to me before during the epic arc. Filed a petition, and a GM fixed that mission for me.

Are you warping to the Dedspace? I.E. Right click somewhere in space and warp to wherever the mission bookmark is? Also check your journal, make sure the mission is in green, if its yellow then you havn't accepted it yet. And I would advise against cancleing the mission as that would mean you forfit all the rest of the missions in the arc. If you have arrived at the correct dedspace location and there really isn't anything there, petition it and a GM can reset the mission for you.

What I did was to open the journal and right click on the destination, then set it for the destination. Once I came out of warp I went back to the journal, right clicked on the destination again and clicked warp to. When I get out of warp there's nothing there.

Is there an easier way to do it?

Page a GM and ask them to reset the mission for you because there are missions that are bugged. Just make sure it shows as accepted (green) in the journal before bothering them.

sounds bugged. file a petition and go run some other missions while you wait for it to be fixed.

I found this about that mission. It's part of the arc.

From other posts, it sounds like it is possible that the mission gets farmed out. You might try again and get lucky.

When all else fails, petition, as it is an arc mission.

Is it possible you tried to warp to the mission area but ran out of capacitor mid-warp?

Right click in space and select the mission BM - does it say "Approach" or "Warp to.." on the available options?

If it says "Warp to.." then you're not at the beacon yet. Check to make sure it says "Approach" as that indicates you've made it to the mission space grid.

Issue resolved. A GM fixed it. But it still shows up in my journal as Offered. Do I decline or is it really fixed?

Don't decline, as it is part of the arc. Try it again. If it is still broke, petition again.

Is it possible you're running out of capacitor before you get to the deadspace site - being deposited in normal space away from everything?

If this is the case, wait for your capacitor to recharge then trry again.
