WALK IN STATION???? WHEN!!!!? CCP STOP IGNORING UR LOYAL USER BASE, IF WE WERE PROMISED SOMETHING, WE WANT AT LEAST SOME ANSWERS!!

How about some devblog of what u guys have been doing with WiS (if you haven't that project still shelved...), who care this COSMOS PoS, shell out something the majority of the users can actually enjoy... next expansion: better sovs mechanics, gotta be kidding me... how many of you devs get to really enjoy the new sovs mechanics...

Please pay attention to your clients...

Sounds great so far ... but I'm a bit confused, what does this have to do with the current COSMOS system in game (COSMOS systems and agents) - or is this the same name for 2 totally different things ?

YES oh thank god

This concerns me. Will this affect finding people who, say, don't want to be found in game?

This sounds great and all, but what does this mean for the EVE API? "You can use COSMOS for that, thus we don't need to give you an API for it"? EVEmail API has been possibly the most requested API since day one. Will we be getting API equivalents for everything COSMOS does?

I care little about CCP-maintained sites as CCP doesn't have the strongest record when it comes to maintaining websites and making them useful/relevant in the way the style of site demands (see: the forums, Evelopedia). A CCP social networking site (That's all this is, by the sound of it)? Hello MySpaceOnline. If CCP had given the community an API to EVEmail a year ago we'd have EVEmails tied into Thunderbird/Outlook through IMAP/SMTP, we'd have Gevemail, you name it. A few hundred developers working because they want to make something awesome will always beat a company and few teams of ten working on a spec they've not had much input on.

I knew that this blog was in reference to the social networking concept known as "COSMOS", but I still wonder why CCP chose a name they had already used for something else.

TBH CCP has hinted that they will not be fixing the ingame "COSMOS" missions something to do with their new mission writing tools.

I for one am a loyal user, and I do not want WiS. I signed up to play an interwebz spaceship game, not watch avatars walk around.

Access to in-game mail through an out-of-game website is cool, I suppose. But if you want to make available a currently in-game function out-of-game, I'd put skill management at the top of the list. The skill queue is a big help, but when you're away from home it's a lot easier to find a computer with internet access than one that you can install and run Eve on.

Regarding the "two-way agreed friendships", please make it "friends and foes" so you can have your enemies on it as well, might even take it from the standing list of the alliance/corporations/personal as it would also make the "ingame social network profile" complete rather than "just having a simple friend list".

Especially with alliance/corp/personal standings this should/could tie from the COSMOS to the ingame standings and would be muchos awesome.

And like simular features in games like EQII and WoW something that will be mostly ignored or not used by 99% of the playerbase beyond pokeing around at it when it goes live.

Seriously most buisnesses and even more and more schools and public librarys nowdays block you from going to any websight that feature "out of game suport for ingame play" as part of there basic web policy

you end up with a situation where if your going to log in just to check your "evemail" you might as well just log into the game.

overall Im kind of meh on the whole thing.

Will we gain the ability to check evemails using an external email client? IMAP access would be ideal.

Pff, facebook in space. not needed. Not big, not clever.

An upgrade to the mail system, yes needed, but not with all the bells and whistles. We have EVEmon, EVEHQ, Meep, EFT and all the rest for that.

What I'd like to see is a separate client for in game communications (chat, mail and voice) so that you can check your in game mail on a computer that can't access the main client (at work maybe). A separate voice client would mean that if you DC you don't lose voice comms (which is what currently happens with EVE-Voice), and an external chat client for the same reason.

We don't need a facebook/myspace clone thank you very much we have facebook for that.

Nah you know them too well, they'd implement their own thing over a standard, like they did with the API instead of using webservices or any other perfectly serviceable existing standard. Why use standards when you can reinvent the wheel?

Something compact that I can access from my cellphone would be nice, would help in scheduling ops when I'm at work, while not having to monkey around attempting to bypass the draconian filters.

All 3rd party programs are just that: 3rd party. That means CCP doesn't own them and doesn't have any quality control over them. Besides, those programs don't always work on all plateforms, so your argument is pretty much pointless. It IS needed, and has been for a very long time.

In case you haven't read properly, that's exactly what they said they would do. You will be able to access this COSMOS thing via a website (external to the game) and from inside the game.

CCP don't listen to these people and keep working on it, we do need such a tool.

Same.... Sad

How to confuse things... why not use a new name? Or are you going to rename the existing mess that is COSMOS?

I believe it when I see it. Somehow I fear CCP will find a reason 2 weeks prior to its release to pack it all up until further notice.

Ps: would have been a nice blog for Oveur, with much more information then now displayed. (one blog a year aint that much is it?)

I entirely agree. However, two things.

The distinction between what the API is, and what a CCP hosted COSMOS site might be, is that the API does not allow you to transmit data TO the gaming environment from offline. This COSMOS site seems to promise the ability to perform actions from outside the game that traditionally players have had to be in the game to do (at first evemail, buddy lists ... then maybe contracts? ... someday maybe science/industry/market stuff?). I think CCP wants to avoid opening up the ability for players to design freeform tools that publish data to their servers. That is kind of a scary thought. You thought in-game bots were bad? Imagine what a 3rd party ISKseller bot could do from offline manipulating markets and contracts. It's going to be bad enough that they will be able to scan killboards for pilot names and send us eve-mails advertising their "CH3APe$T PR1c oN ISKs". Huge can of worms there.

Second. Why the hell call it COSMOS. While you're at it, overhaul the contracts system again, only don't call them contracts, call them missions. Or fix POS's, only don't call them POS's, call them stations. Or maybe remove asteroid belts, and just call them planets. Acronym reuse ftw.

I like the idea of a social network tie-in, but had to point out one little thing from your "Agile Manifesto" that bugged me,

Simplicity--the art of maximizing the amount
of work not done
--is essential. (third line from the bottom)

Uh... is it supposed to say that?
