You seem to have misunderstood the situation. It's not illegal to BBQ, it's just not advised LaughingLaughingLaughing That is, if you care about your future. You know the neighbour is watching.

"(1) This section applies to a gathering on land in the open air of 100 or more persons (whether or not trespassers) at which amplified music is played during the night (with or without intermissions) and is such as, by reason of its loudness and duration and the time at which it is played, is likely to cause serious distress to the inhabitants of the locality; and for this purpose—" - section 63 of the criminal justice and public order act of 1994.

So as it states it is for a gathering of 100 people or more with amplified music for a long duration of time, not a gathering of 15 people with no music.

Sorry but this is screwed up.

"Ignorance of the law is no excuse", I heard police tell me and others this my entire life and now when it comes back to them they expect different treatment.

Fact of the matter is it is their job to know what is "right and wrong" to do and tread that fine line based upon the laws written by the state, and if they are ignorant of the laws then they deserve to be sued.

The problem with that is that you didn't post paragraph 2.

Quote:
(2) If, as respects any land in the open air, a police officer of at least the rank of superintendent reasonably believes that—
(a) two or more persons are making preparations for the holding there of a gathering to which this section applies,
(b) ten or more persons are waiting for such a gathering to begin there, or
(c) ten or more persons are attending such a gathering which is in progress,
he may give a direction that those persons and any other persons who come to prepare or wait for or to attend the gathering are to leave the land and remove any vehicles or other property which they have with them on the land.

So yeah. The "rave act" is a piece of oppressive **** (as it's fully up to the "belief" of a police officer, which frankly gives them a free hand to shut down 2 guys with an iPod boosting pack). But they were following the letter of the law.

Damn it see now when you don't post the whole ****ing story, and I end up looking like a ****ing moron. (more so than already)

This is why I normally don't trust any information source that I have not verified myself.

Well crap. According to that, regardless of my opinion of the matter, the police and their actions were fully justified. The law is left vague for that purpose.

Enjoy your police state gents, no worries the USA is only 10 years behind YARRRR!!

This is just another example of a growing pile of proof that social networking sites are one of the worst ideas in the long history of bad ideas. People are just too naive with information these days regardless of how innocent the intent may have been at the time. If its something that can be twisted and turned against you, it will be by a person so lined.

Employers look there (had someone at my last job get fired for something they put on there)
Police look there (to protect us from bad men!)
Bored strangers looking for parties to go to look there (I DIDN'T INVITE 200 PEOPLE!)

It's basically why you should never ever put anything that can be connected to you IRL on the net unless it's 100% professional (which facebook isn't) Neutral

UK police are fail and should have their budgets cut, especially in these places where they seem to have "nothing to do" as another poster said.

Seriously, cut the military and police spending a bit and we can start paying out deficit and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet.

Andrew Poole, who was celebrating his 30th birthday, claimed police riot vans turned up before any music was played.

But police said it had been advertised on the internet as an all-night party.

So wait, all night parties are illegal in the UK?
