I know it's the most common theory, but.. Prove it.

He's been on the topgear payroll for several years.
He was marked on the Hammond crash report as being there and a witness to the incident.
He has a wide coverage of experience in motor sport in general.

He was in an interview for a Danish program, which I saw, and heard a Bristol accent (Collins is from Bristol, and being from Bristol myself, it's quite easy to recognise the accent).

Also:
"Earlier this year it was claimed the mystery driver was professional stuntman and Le Mans racer Ben Collins.

According to reports, Collins let the secret slip when he asked a Bristol gallery to produce a limited-edition print of The Stig in action. One YouTube clip also shows The Stig, in full disguise, talking with a Bristol accent to a TV crew, before cutting to Collins sounding very similar."

It is Collins.

It was also in the news that a builder or some other type of workman saw the Stig costume in Ben Collins home.

schummy isn't the stig, was a bbc hoax to tell the press to stfu
However I for one, would never ever hope to know who the stig is, why would you want to spoil the engima that surrounds this man...
The stig is not mortal, he comes from the gods and thus his name shall never be spoken...

I'm a subscriber to the Collins theory too. One thing I'm certain of, it's not an F1 driver, past or present. Look at the line they take when they do the Star in a reasonably priced car segment. Every single F1 driver takes the same line, Stig doesn't.

Guess why xxx (name removed to protect the innocent)was the stig? The ferrari FXX that they drove round the track pretty fast(not giving away any spoilers) actually belonged to xxx. Since it is quite expensive, i doubt he wanted them to just blow it up and drove it himself, and in order to justify that, he had to dress up as the stig.
Not actually confirmed by Top Gear, but thats what i think

I agree with you, when "The Stig" was driving the FXX I noticed that you could see a part of the Stigs neck in one angle, the real Stig would not have made the mistake of messing up like that.

Schumacher is not the real stig
guess who owns the only straight black FXX in the world, #30/30
Schumacher... if you know how owning a FXX works i doubt ferrari would let anyone but Schumacher drive it.

They also keep saying 'revealed' (ie in inverted commas) which kinda signifies they are saying it with a nod and a wink.

It's not Schumacher, although it was a funny stunt to get the new series going. You watch, the next episode, it will be back to normal, with The Stig always wearing his helmet (because he's not Schumacher).

Why would they de-mystify The Stig? The second you do so, it lessens the character, and the fun you can have with that character.

Some say he enjoys yelling at trees, and that he lives in a house entirely made of Lego. We only know him as The Stig.

Spokeman confirms 'The Stig' mystery is far from over

The identity of Top Gear's test driver has long been debated. It is one of the most popular internet search questions.
Schumacher's appearance on the show was more than likely a stunt to mark the first episode of the new BBC Two series.
A spokesman for Top Gear confirmed Schumacher had been The Stig during the Ferrari circuit, where he completed a lap of the Top gear track in 1 minute 10.7 seconds in a £1 million Ferrari FXX – seven seconds faster than ever before.
But the spokesman added that the identity of the driver at other times would remain "a mystery".
Following a bad drive by former Formula One world champion Schumacher at the end of the show, host Jeremy Clarkson told viewers: "I don't think Michael Schumacher is the Stig." So the question remains.

The first Stig was stunt driver Perry McCarthy.
Known as The Black Stig, he always wore a black suit and helmet before he was "killed off" during the third series in 2003 after revealing his identity. He was subsequently replaced with the new White Stig.
Earlier this year it was claimed the mystery driver was professional stuntman and Le Mans racer Ben Collins.
According to reports, Collins let the secret slip when he asked a Bristol gallery to produce a limited-edition print of The Stig in action. One YouTube clip also shows The Stig, in full disguise, talking with a Bristol accent to a TV crew, before cutting to Collins sounding very similar.
Collins started his motorsport career in 1994, competing in Formula First and Formula Vauxhall Junior on his way to International Formula 3. He has appeared on Top Gear as himself on various occasions. He was also the driving double for Daniel Craig in the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace.

Clues about The Stig's real life also surfaced earlier this year, with reports that he was a married man in his 30s who lives in a £300,000 house with an unglamorous £15,000 car.
Other prime suspects include former world Formula 1 champion Damon Hill, former professional driver Julian Bailey and drivers Darren Turner and Allan McNish.
Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay has even claimed on occasion to being the man behind the helmet, while Clarkson has claimed he is BBC royal reporter Nicholas Witchell.

And other reports suggest the man has been played by no fewer than eight drivers, including Lewis Hamilton's McLaren team-mate Heikki Kovalainen.
Experienced stunt drivers Terry Grant and Russ Swift have also donned the white overalls, while Dan Lang, a Swedish snowmobile racing champion, played The Stig in a stunt where he jumped a snowboile off a ski jump, it is alleged.
