I am sure his father is proud to have a son who is so good at accelerating darwinism and weeding out the emotionally pathetic guys that go this nuts over a video game.

I like how in that article, the guy being interviewed implied it's better to be arguing with your wife/husband than to be playing a game.

I noticed that too. I also love how this idiot wants some magic significance along the lines of killing your lover re: destroying the hard drives, rather than the Gordian possibility of they didn't want people going over their **** with a comb.

Block strikes me as an opportuni$t.

Bit funny how they try to focus as the game to be causing the issue, while clearly it's the guy with issues that can't handle the game.

All of the individuals he cited had strong ties to online community's. I'd say that was a deciding motivation in nuking harddrives.

Funny, the Leisure Suit Larry-playing generation grew up to be... statistically diverse, like most other generations, and generally along the same lines as the rest of the post-boomers :P.

I'm sure this Block guy knows full well, unless he's completely incompetent, that lacking a video game would mean only that these addictive personalities would have latched on to something else to trigger their self-destructions. Eliminate drugs, booze, games, the gender of your preference, and tie your hands behind your back (ahem) and people will form cults founded on drooling, or something.

These are obviously people who hit adulthood without being qualified. Like high school grads that can't read, they shouldn't have gotten this far without someone recognizing that they're not gonna handle the real world and need some serious training to make up for lost time first. Instead, responsible adults are nerfed because someone else chose to blow up instead of seeking help (gotta admit tho, we seem to give more approval to going aggro than 'showing weakness' by asking for help).

Or, i believe Ministry said (sampled) it best:

"Adults create the world children live in. Juvenile delinquency is always rooted in... adult delinquency. And in this process, parents play a key role. Children grow up in an environment where adults refuse to recognize anything fine and good, or worth of... respect."
(respect) (respect) (respect)

That's exactly what I said a few posts up, albeit, less elaborate. Razz

The key is the 'addictive personality'. I'm not certain these people can be hooked on just about anything, like you present, but.. either case, games, drugs, whatever people get addicted to - it has different effects/impacts on different people. In some cases it has a physical reason, others, a mental.

It's PC right now to claim MMO's addictive, ruin peoples life outside games, whatever. When I was a kid it was PC to blame violence on videogames. At the end of the day it's a matter of WTF goes on in peoples brains, no more, no less.

Hell I got a crapload of mental issues, but definately not having any problem saying 'lolbai' to my friends ingame, log off and go out to grab some beer and do a BBQ when RL calls. In that sense I don't believe for a second that Istvaan has put the poor sob in therapy either; the dude was a walking bomb, it'd be more accurate to call Istvaan the trigger. Twisted Evil
