More sepcifically, cruisers and BCs.

I'm currently in the process of creating my year-long plan in evemon, and, as one of my long-term goals is flying med sized Minmatar ships, I though I'd ask you what, if any Minmatar ships are viable for PVP while being shield tanked?

Also, while we are at it, what would you call the "reasonable" level of skills to fly them?

Oh, and preferably T1.

sleipnir, claymore are awsome minni ships.
havnt flown the cyclone in years so wont comment on it, but the shield boost bonus is nice. and of course you have stabber/vagabond were you use a passive shield tank.

but as with all other minni ships these as well require high skills to use well

both minnie BC can be shield tanked well enough.

rupture can fit a awesome/comedy 2xLSE tank but it's only good for ratting since you'll have no point/web. cookie cutter stabber fit is 1xLSE buffer.

bellicose & scythe, who knows to be honest. they're the comedy cruisers. hulltank them for the killboard lulz when you manage to kill something in one.

the general idea is shield buffering minmatar ships, rather than trying to active tank them. med extenders on jags, large extenders on BC/cruisers, armour on the battleships and the other frigs.

except the maelstrom. obviously. and the cyclone if you are desperate to active tank a BC.

This thread, found in page 2, will probably answer most if not all your questions.

Also note that very few Minmatar ships actually active shield tank, so the shield part for most ships is quite easy to train for.

Most minnie t2 ships are shield tanked (dunno if cruisers include t2 cruisers for you). Vaga, broadsword, scimitar, huginn, rapier (well those 2 can also use plate, but usually are shield tanked).

Hurricane with shield rezistance rigs works pretty well
6 x 220 II | 2 Heavy Asault II
1 x MWD | 1 x Scrambler/Disrupt | 1 x LSE II | 1 x INV II
3 x Gyro II | 1 X DCII | 1 x whatever | 1 x whatever

about 42k effective hp (with my ****ty skills)

I passive tank the hell out of my cane...though unless 1v1 in pvp not to helpful. The cyclone gets a bonus, and over all is not a bad fitting ship compared to the other "cheaper" BC's. I know you said med, but the Maelstrom also gets a active tank bonus. The command ships can also be shield tanked as well.

Bellicose
Stabber
Rupture

Cyclone
Hurricane

Maelstrom

And every minnie T2 ship is a shield tanker, iirc. (Except for the Wolf with its two midslots.)

Thread is about cruisers and BCs. But either way, the amount of ships that DO active tank (the ones you mentioned) is far smaller than the ones that don't. Besides that, hurricane > cyclone, and vargur isn't a PvP ship (and can't be made into one, like the kronos).

I fly a claymore, sleipnir and maelstrom with crystals and of course blue pills myself, so I know how effective they are. By the way, crystals don't help the hel or naglfar.
