I have all the basic learning skills at 4 and most of the advanced at 3 (that finishes shortly after 1.6 million).

Should I take the rest of basics to 5 or is it not worth the train time? Should I take advanced beyond 3? Once upon a time (a few years ago) people said the advanced learning wasn't worth taking to 5 because the time spent wasn't worth the time saved for skills or something.

Other than implants, are there any other ways to increase my SP/hour once learning is done? Boosters, other skills, etc?

take your basics to 5, the advances to 4, get some +3 implants and get going on some REAL skills.

no, the only way to increase your SP/hour is with learning skills and implants

Lvl 5 on the advanced is certainly not worth it in this early stage of the game. You could take the advanced learning skills to 4 but i'd suggest you keep them for a bit later on. Other than the learning/advanced learning skills and implants (cybernetics skill) there are no other ways to improve your stats afaik. I suggest you now go train some stuff you will be using in your career Wink

Clarification: Keep the basics at 4 for now, advanced at 3, get some +2's or +3 implants and start training carreer skills. They are pretty short and low level atm so those 20 mins to an hour difference in the lvl 5 of low level skills doesn't hurt you much. Once you get to train skills that take longer to complete you can train both basic and advanced a level up.

Don't train any more learning skills. Train skills that will get you to fly some fun ships. The game is about fun, not omg I'm losing 100 sp/week because I didn't perfectly micromanage my character!

From 4/3 in the basic/advanced learning skills, your best path is Cybernetics I (to get +3 implants), advanced skills to IV, and then go out and have some fun before tackling the basic lvl Vs…

according to evemon, I have to set a year long plan to justify training up learning further. The relevant skill in question is at 4 on basic and 3 advanced. The gain from knocking it up a level to 4 on advanced is a day or so. I'm not going to do that!

Don't listen to these guys. Start using evemon and set a few month long plans. If you can gain days with more learning training do it otherwise leave it. Go train something that's actually related to FUN.

Just plug in +3's, and when you can afford it, +4's.

Because apparantly the double training speed is calculated when the skill starts training, so as long as you have under 1.6m when you start training battleship V, it'll only take 15-20 days instead of 30-40.

Did this with learning V (unintentionally). I didn't log into the game during that time. A buddy who did log in said that his training speed got adjusted downwards in mid-training, but maybe he did something more than just logging into the character. Like, uh, pausing skilltraining or something :)

This is how not to plan skills.

Adding every skill you like the look of into EVEmon doesn't count as a plan, because you will end up breaking it, chopping and changing skills, adding new ones in, taking ones out. It's very much a rough guide and not a plan if it's going on for 2 years.

Incidentally, while I've got Basics V, Advanced IV and +IV implants, don't feel obliged to train the learning skills in one block. It will completely ruin any potential enjoyment of the game that you could have very fast. Just leave your learning skills where they are at the moment and then come back to them later, after you've trained for a few more ship types. My recommendations are interceptors and assault frigates, maybe branching into electronic attack frigs - that will net you a useful set of small gang-capable ships as well as setting you up very, very nicely with basic skills.

Oh I agree with you - I am having an awesome time with my buddies running levels three's in our cross-trained battle cruisers. (Which was in my plan, btw) I did not add all the learning skills in one block.

I am, however, not a fool enough to think that I can fly a battleship fitted with slingshots. While I can be in a Megathron or a Tempest in 8 days or so, I wont. So my plan calls for me to do learning skills for a few weeks, then improve some stuff, then back to learning, etc... All the while earning isk missioning to get that battleship I want, fitted the way I want it.

With the skills to fly it properly. Six months from now.

Plus - Battlecruisers to 5 is a must!

I think getting the learning skills to 5 is a personal choice. For me it is a must, as I would always be looking over my shoulder at the blank spots in my training guide, and it would eat at me like a flesh-eating bacteria. ANY speed improvement is worth it to me, in the long run...

I've trained advanced to 4 and base to 5 and have +4 implants. I have every intention of going +5 advanced and getting +5 implants in the coming months as well. The math may say its not practical, but I don't really care.

I'd suggest keeping your basics at 4 and your advanced at 3, getting some cheap-o +3 implants (then +4 as soon as you can afford it), and running with that until you have a month you can invest in learning skills and not go crazy.

I used the 4/3/4 setup for a bit over a year, until I finally made the month-long investment and trained to 5/4/4. And if I had to do it all over again, I'd still do it the same way. Fun now > more skills later, at least for a while.

Poasting again because I feel this is important.

If you really must train the learning skills, get basics IV and advanced III, learning III or IV.

I just ran the numbers again. If I set a year long plan, the 25 days or so required to knock my skills up to V/IV and learning five gives me 10 days faster training time. Think about it. You spend 25 days, and after a YEAR you have gotten 10 days back. If you spread these learning blocks out, you gain even less.

Now, implants +3 gives me 57 days faster training time.

+4's 66 days. (this also shows that the gain from +4s are debatable, but that's just an isk question. If you want to pvp, it probably isnt).

Read that again until you understand, and please stop recommending the newbs the V/IV. They listen to your advice so please be responsible!
