i really love the wormhole delayed local chat, and i want to see it on normal space as well

pro:

the spam gets reduced , which means the provided player lag gets reduced as well, hi to goons btw

it will be getting more thrill into the 0.0 gameplay, and it should be like this, imagine even in rl you wouldnt know if someone is with you or not, only your ships sensors can tell you that someone is near you.

contras:

cant find anything against more difficulty in a game that already became hello kitty online,

will make a more detailed post when im sober again

but conclusion is : we need delayed local, at least in 0.0

I've liked the idea in the past, but now with WH space giving you that option, time to enjoy it there.

The problem being the game is set up so that in 0.0 and higher sec status any player in space shows up on local. Yes, it would give you(us) wanting to surprise the other. Local was set up this way for a reason, and has worked well for a long time. One option is 0.0 sec systems without sov could run this way, and have a module for pos's that would display local to all players in the system. Much like a cyno jammer works now. It can be taken out for fleet ups so that the other side doesn't know the numbers they are up against.

I'm sick of everyone instantly seeing me in local when I jump in and either hiding or getting a fleet up to kill me.

that's a good idea for 0.0 space Smile

You could also leave the holding entity the choice to map planets, belts, etc..
or not. Except the gates ofc Very Happy
A pos module could do that I guess

Yes, this will be awesome for small corps trying to make a living in NPC 0.0.

Or not. It's a horrible idea for certain areas of EVE.

As much as I want local to change, this game isn't a democracy.

You can't make a game based on majority rule. But that said, proponents of change are never in the majority.

I think delayed would be fine for 0.0, but probably leave the local as it is for highsec and lowsec empire as that could cause ...problems.

No.

I love delayed local in W Space, but W Space is subtly different to .0

Firstly access to it is, on a wide scale at least, unpredictable. This has a significant impact on the roaming gang and on wider .0 sov battles.

Secondly W Space is 99% exploration based - .0 is not, it has fewer exploration sites and more static locations such as belts. This is important when we consider the attackers first question: where is my target likely to be?

Finally w-space is not interconnected in the same way as .0. Its harder to move at speed across w systems where as in .0 gate to gate travel is simple and straight forward. This has significant ramifications in terms of population density which in turn impacts likely % chance of "getting ganked".

I think we leave w-space to become established before further moves are made to significantly change the make up of .0 / low sec.

I propose a compromise...

Keep local displaying the number of people in system in 0.0, but don't have it display the actual character names until they broadcast something in local!

how about you only show those people in local that are, let's say 1au away from a stargate or station

I really want at least 30 second delayed local chat, really doesn't need to be more than 1 minute.

However I understand that if we going to take away from local, we should give something more to the scanner - simplest of which would be to make scanner window real time, update like overview, not by clicking Scan

Delayed local in nullsec will seem really nice to you guys until the next greater Goonswarm fleet comes through clearing you out :P

All I have to say is that is, if any feature to remove local is added.

I'd like delayed local everywhere but high sec. High sec would be nice too for pirate types like me but it's high sec so it should probably stay as is.

Hmm, how will that goonswarm fleet find out there is actually someone in that system?

How will the goonswarm fleet prevent being discovered in time by proper scouting?

If they manage to get around these problems, they deserve their kills tbh.

signed, i came up with this idea already as well some months ago, like making it a real time window that emits a pulse in all directions, showing up red dots for example (ships) around 20 au of your ship, like a proximity scanner, dont know how much load it will give on the server, can mybe be made able to turn off in huge fights

Ah, local, rendering covert ops cloak nearly useless since release. I'd certainly support this in null and low sec. But high sec seems more of a social area, so might want to keep it as is there. Then again delayed local in jita would probably help the server out.

-> Introduce two new Items:

1) Subspace Communication Tower
It looks like a Pos Tower but cant fit any modules. It has decent Hitpoints. It can be anchored at free moons. It can be hacked to switch it offline. If online, it turns local into instant mode. If offline, it turns local into delayed mode.

2) Outpost Communication Upgrade
Its an Outpost Upgrade that works like a SCT (see above) but needs to be damaged instead of hacked to turn local off.

now things get interesting ^^

I don't think its a good idea, in the end delaying the local in 0.0 and local as you have in wormhole space I think would end up hurting CCPs bottom line to much. Thus from a business point of view it's not a good move. I think that is why they introduced wormhole space as they have, because since you can do it or not it doesn't hurt the bottom line really.

(I believe their is a pattern in the wormholes too and that at some point there will be a major guide and they'll be used as strategic weapons).

Hell. No.

Sorry, it's not that I don't like the concept, but pressing the directional scanner every 5 seconds is monotonous and awful yet absolutely necessary for any kind of reliable local intel.

Give us a better way to detect the certain death that is incoming and I'm all for it.

Where's the 'flogging a dead horse' image again?

Because empire isn't full enough yet?

Will have to come with cloak nerf so current scanner can always find people.

scanner will have to give up 'who' they found info as well.

Locator agents will have to be able to find people not docked

Sounds fun.

while I'm in a 'pvp mentality' boost, why not make all (100%) stations 3-5km kick out as well so we dont get these undocking / redocking games?

I love the fact that you think it a democracy Smile

It would have a negative impact on a majority of the player base (ie. Empire). Perhaps something similar to W-Space will be implemented when 0.0 gets its overhaul.

They have stated on numerous occasions that they want to get rid of the POS-borefare and revamp the whole sovereignty thing, my bet is on delayed-local coming along with such changes and not before .. if ever.
