Hello, my brother, whom I introduced to EVE online last year, decided that he no longer wants his account and wants to give it to me for free. Is it possible to make this my second account so that I can dual-client the game. I would simply change the payment method and name of the account to my information and voila.. I have 2 accounts. Just wondering. He doesn't want to play EVE anymore, and stated that his account is like 10,000,000SP as compared to mine at 2,800,000 SP. This would give me a chance to finally venture out of the safe zones.. and it would also aid me in any Mining ventures.
I just recently restarted my own account, and since I heard he's not playing anymore, I would rather pay for his account to be active also, thus giving CCP 40 bucks a month instead of 20..
Just wondering if this is possible.. if not then I'll just buy my own second account and start fresh with it.
I just don't want to break any rules and ****.
Thanks for the advice in advance, people of EVE. Keep up the good work CCP. I promise to stick around a while this time, at least. I'm tired of trying new games that end up dissapointing me.
Sincerely,
Trig |

Technically this would be an EULA violation (account selling/trading/sharing is not allowed). To be 100% sure to stay within the rules, you should have your brother transfer the character from his account to yours using the CCP approved method (which cost 20 bucks or something). |

Ok, in doing this, does his account have to be active?
This way I could buy a new account and transfer his character to mine.. (yes, it costs more, and it's a waste of a perfectly good account.) with the help of CPP, we could just EASE this process by simply letting me change the name.. on the account and maybe pay them the same amount it would cost to go through the 10 step process.
So,
Option 1:
Change Name, Address, Credit Card on 1 account
Option 2:
Activate New Account, Maybe possibly have to reactivate his account, since it's currently "unsubbed", then Pay for Character Transfer from his account to my new account.
Option 1 total cost: 20(first month)
Option 2 Total Cost: 20(transfer)+20(first month)
But if they let me break the rules, with their permission, then they would have to let every tom dink and jane break the same rules.... and well, I'm nothing special.
I'll Take Option 2 for 40 dollars, Alex.

Firstly, yes for a transfer both accounts have to be active, an off-trial. So you would need to pay activate another account, then pay to reactivate his account, then pay to transfer it, under CCP rules. However if you were to reactivate his account with an ETC and just never tell them that the ownership has changed, who's to know? Not that I am advocating such a thing, of course. Perish the thought. The rules are there to stop people making real cash out of Eve, not to stop this kind of transfer. This is the kind of problem that if you just stop shouting about, it would go away. If you really wanted to do this sticking to the letter of the law you could save some money by starting your second account under the buddy program, thereby giving you 30 days free on your main account and at least reducing it back to a 2-cost problem rather than a 3-cost one. |

Question: Are you intending to dual box with both accounts? If so then transferring the character to your account may not be the best way to go. |

Edited by: Trig Onami on 09/03/2009 07:39:38 Edited by: Trig Onami on 09/03/2009 07:37:50 I want to dual box yes.. but for now I just want 2 accounts total. But not have to pay out the ass to get his transfered onto my second account(the new one I would have to get, to keep within the "law").
As he said, a 3 cost transfer is kinda lame. This is what I'm trying to avoid.. maybe CCP would understand that I'm not BUYING his account.. he's just giving it to me for free. so I'm in no way making money, nor is he. But the fact that i would have to fork out such ridiculous amounts to get his character onto my new second account is stupid.
Why not just let me change the name and credit card number, and voila.. I got 2 accounts..
Man if you check the credentials.. you can see clearly that the guy who owns the second account is my brother.. same last name and all..
Oh well. I'll talk to my brother then.. hopefully he can reactivate it and I'll pay him the stupid fee, and CCP the stupid fee. and I'll have what I want regardless of the politics behind it. |

Well...
If you use time cards, how would CCP know who's really using the account?
Hmm? |

Hi Trig Onami, What you are trying to do is against the Terms of service . According to the TOS # 22, "You may not share your account password with anyone. Infraction of this rule is done at your own risk. Further information on account transfers can be found in the EULA ". |

This sounds awfully close to "just go for it" in Dev Speak. However, I did get banned from the game for doing essentially this, so yes, at your own risk. Happened to me because this guy (he deserved it so bad for all the smack he did, too) gave me his account password after I made a new character to infiltrate his corp as a "noob". Having heard of all the legal and condoned corp theft done in Eve I didn't even think for a second that I was severely breaking the rules by logging on to his account and emptying his hangers/corp wallet/etc. In my case it was because I did mean things to another player. In your case I don't think anybody would know or care if you took the easier, cheaper, route. That said, I do sorely wish I had my old character back. 15ish million skill points completely wasted. This was in '06, though, so 15 mil was a little more respectable. Any charitable devs can feel free to unban me at any time though. Just saying. Viance. Cough. ♥ |

They want their $20, which has to be done via CC or similar, so they can TRACE what happens to an account. It's the reason why char transfers can't be paid for with time cards, paypal or the like. And ofcourse, a company wanting to make cash on their product clearly is a nasty form of capitalism. |

At your own risk, in this context, means if your brother wanted to complain about your use of his account later then your main account might get banned for it. But he won't, so there's no problem there. And use plex or ETC and you don't have to change account details. The account remains your brothers. Thousands of people do exactly this kind of thing every day. Most are smart enough not to shout about it on the forums, however. |

Edited by: Trig Onami on 11/03/2009 04:05:57 Edited by: Trig Onami on 11/03/2009 04:03:14 well i don't want to break rules.
I will BUY my OWN second account, and then MAKE MY BROTHER PAY TO RESUB(waste of money) his account for 15 seconds at a cost of 20 dollars, then PAY yet another 20 dollars to transfer his character onto my second account.
Then he will Cancel his account, and you'll never hear from him again.. If CCP was generous, they would allow me to take his character, and insert it into my SECOND ACCOUNT, which is bought LEGIT, for half the cost I'm gonna pay here.
I mean seriously resubbing for 15 seconds for 20 dollars is in my opinion, a scam. That's what I'm trying to convey here. Not the fact that I have to buy my own second account, and pay the transfer fee. Just the RESUB part. that i want free. Out of the goodness of their hearts.. It would be nice if they understood my intentions.. and not jump to the conclusion that I want to break the rules.
EDIT: I read the EULA and looks like my brother has to pay to resub, because an inactive account is impossible to do anything with other than re-activate. I'll wait until I have more money, and then I'll reimburse him the entire cost he has to pay. And yes HE will be the one transfering his character to me. I will not be a broker in this transaction. Just want CCP to know it would be better if they didn't require my brother to resub. Anyway.. rules are rules.. My brother will contact you in a week or so to resub and stuff.
And for the record, no, I don't know his password. And I don't intend to use his account. What I wanted was to see if it was possible to change account info, so that it's MY OWN information in there instead of his.. but clearly, that's against the rules as well.
It's all about the benjamins, you know.. And using time cards on someone else's account is breaking the rules.. And I don't play that. |

Edited by: Iamien on 11/03/2009 03:51:38 His brother would be the one breaking the EULA, not him.
Also, there is nothing wrong with using someone else's account, as long as you guess the password and he doesn't tell it to you. All you have to do is ask him what his favorite word is.
Under the current wording CCP would have to have evidence that the password was shared. |

Edited by: SupaKudoRio on 11/03/2009 11:28:22Haha, just activate his account and dual box with it I would say. But you told them you wanted to do that. If you had said nothing, CCP would never have known. Now you'll get the bancannon if you do. |
