Hey, Firstly I'll admit to running a few profitable scams in the old escrow days, I'll even admit to losing a few hundred mil to the odd scam in my time too.
But CCP surly the time has come to end it, 75% of local spam in Jita is for scam contracts in one for or another. How I'm happy to block people every time i check out a scam contract but its just getting beyond a joke these days.
I also cant believe your letting players run scams on the 30 day plex cards which are bought for RL currency. Thats just daft whichever way you look at it.
Please think before your reply, i'm keen to hear both sides of the argument but please engage your brain first and respond with a degree of intelligence.

As long as people are stupid enough to fall for the common Jita scams, then they'll still exist. If you want to cut down on those scams, why not join the help channel and make sure everyone is aware of them? |

ccp isnt ever going to end it, people shouhld simply be smarter. 90% of the people getting scammed are isk buyers anyway. so scams are like spiders, you hate them but they help so much...and as for the GTC thing if they go and spend 20 bucks on a card and they get scammed because their too careless to look at the contract, thats their own fault... sucks but thats how it goes i guess. |

Personally, if CCP wow-ifies this game, I will quit; Scamming is beyond fun to do, and is very profitable... Only the carebears, and sore losers whine about it... |

It's impossible to be scammed if you just pay attention. OP claims he scams people but also says he's been scammed himself. Guess what makes him? Ignorant, frequent drunk, or stupid. This is not a personal attack so don't bother btw, I'm just stating the obvious. Just think for two seconds.. you know how to scam people but you don't know how to avoid being scammed yourself? It's not like there's no tools to defend yourself in EVE. When a contract pops up you do have warning texts, content lists, etc, not to mention that most people that played this game for some time will know that freeform contracts are useless for anything relevant - they're just the 'contract tool for scammers'. I claim it's impossible to be scammed, unless you simply don't know better, or are stupid. What other option would there be? Not paying attention? Now, that'd be stupid, wouldn't it.. |

You've completly missed the point I was attempting to make by rushing off on a tanget with your pubesent rant. As the thread was about scamming I wanted to let the community know that I am aware of both side of the argument, before asking the question if things have just gone to far. You Sir, need to, as requested, engage your brain before touching your keyboard and presenting yourself to the community as a hateful little turd. |

Fail retort failed Brave Sir Dan. You might have had a point about his "rant" if you yourself had left "You Sir, need to, as requested, engage your brain before touching your keyboard and presenting yourself to the community as a hateful little turd." <- this out. But you didn't. Bawww Edit: Nah, still wouldn't have saved you. xD |

You sure it's not you who's coming across that way? The guy made a perfectly valid point. Between looking at a contract and actually accepting it there are plenty of opportunities to see if it's a scam or not. By stating that you "know how to scam" you're presenting that you yourself have knowledge of the process, and therefore should know how to avoid them. Just like a lot of things in EVE, scams are fair game. Just like randomly podding someone in 0.4 because you felt like it, or taking apart BoB by defecting to Goonfleet. Or stealing billions in ISK from an ingame bank. All very well known events. I don't think it has gone too far at all. If you've been scammed, feel free to try and scam back. It's all fair game. |

I always trust my mother's advice: "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is."
I do like the people who try and sell one unit of minerals for 100,000,000 ISK by putting false numbers in the contract description though.
I just wish I could block more than 80 of those idiots at a time. |

The plex scams mean that the potential buyer is out of pocket, this is not RL currency, this is ISK. The person running the scam has spent RL money on the plex card (or they may have got it for ISK, whatever), but as it's a scam they don't lose it or any RL money. The only person who loses is the victim - which is in ISK (unless the scammer is stupid enough to fluff it up, but that's their fault). The reason it's allowed to continue is because no one is losing any RL cash, only ISK. |
